If you think battery powered snow blowers have inadequate performance Snow Joe iON100V-21SB 100 volt snow blower is here to change your mind. It’s one of the most powerful battery powered snow blowers while not being outrageously expensive.

Performance

Is Snow Joe iON100V-21SB as powerful as equally priced gas snow blower? No, it’s not. That doesn’t mean that it’s useless though – it’s still sufficient for most situations while retaining advantages of electric snow blower – lightweightness, compactness, a lot less noise and absolutely no fumes, maintenance or start-up problems.

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB has clearing width of 21 inches and intake height of 12”. It has 2800 W brushless motor and runs on 100-volt 5.0Ah lithium-ion battery/batteries (it comes with 1 battery but you can insert 2 inside) allowing it to clear up to 1,070 lbs of snow per minute.

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB clears up 8 inches of regular, light snow very well. 8-12 inches and it still does the job well but you might have to go at snow a bit slower.

If you use it in 10-12 inches of really heavy snow then it struggles a lot – but still, does the job, you will have to go at it pretty slow though for two reasons: the motor could bog down otherwise and it’s physically hard to push it in the dense snow, you won’t be able to push it fast unless you are some kind of superhuman.

It works pretty well in wet snow too but in such conditions it’s not uncommon for chute to clog.

Maneuverability

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB isn’t self propelled but auger makes it pull itself a bit making pushing machine forward a bit easier – but only a bit. Because this machine is very lightweight it’s easy to maneuver and generally easy to push unless you do it in heavy, dense snow.

Battery

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB comes with a single 100-volt 5.0Ah lithium-ion battery and although battery life depends on conditions you can expect it to last around 40 minutes on full charge. Once depleted it takes around 2 hours to fully charge.

You can insert two batteries in the unit so you can purchase another one to extend runtime however they are very costly.

Quality

Although unit is mostly made of plastic it’s not fragile – it doesn’t feel as robust as large gas snow blowers but it doesn’t mean it won’t outlast them. The parts that truly matter are made of stronger materials like steel.

Features

Has built 2.5 W LED headlights for operation in darkness. Chute rotates 180 degrees and is electronically controlled from control panel. Unit has integrated scraper bar allows you to clear ground without damaging pavement.

Assembly

One of the simplest assemblies you will ever experience as the unit is shipped almost fully assembled – you just have to tighten handle knobs and install chute which takes like 2 minutes to complete.

All that’s left to do now is charge the battery, insert it into snow blower in designated slot and start clearing snow!

Conclusions

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB is one of the best, if not the best battery powered snow blower. It’s not as powerful as similarly priced gas snow blowers and costs more than corded snow blowers with similar performance but it has other advantages over them.

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB works well for light to medium duty jobs. If truly heavy snowfalls are common in your area then you should look for a powerful gas snow blower.
