Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 357cc 30” Snow Thrower Review
Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 snow blower is a higher end unit for home use which reflects in the price tag. So is it worth the money?
Specs
Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 has 357cc overhead valve engine. It has clearing width of 30 inches and intake height of 21. Tires are 16″ x 6.5″ making them wider than most other snow blowers in its class. They have decent grip but a set of tire chains in some cases might be a world of difference.
Performance
Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 is very powerful and performs great. It can handle over feet of any kind of snow with ease whether it’s light or heavy, wet or dry, thick or thin. If you live in area that tends to have heavy snowfalls then this snow blower won’t disappoint you, for areas with small amounts of snow it’s a bit of an overkill.
Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 has 6 forward speeds and 2 backwards. You will probably find yourself using speeds 2 and 3 most of the time.
You can do pull start or electric start – both work flawlessly and it starts easily without issues. It also has power steering which works well.
Features
Update: It seems like current Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 units have manual chute controls. Chute is controlled with remote crank and deflector with remote lever.
Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 has heated grips which work very well even with gloves on and is a very welcome feature on those especially cold days.
It has built-in headlight that’s bright however it is on all the time when the snow thrower is running and cannot be turned off.
It has dipstick so you can check oil level and rear oil drain that sticks out and is easy to access.
Other features include throttle with “off” position, primer bulb, removable safety switch, reflective strips and reversible skid shoe.
Noise
All gas snow blowers produce some noise so perhaps you can’t call any of them quiet but what matters is how loud they are relatively to other models. Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 is noticeably quieter than most other snow blowers in its class and there aren’t many models that are quieter than it.
Conclusions
Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 is a great snow blower that despite being expensive offers good value for money, however for some consumers it will be more than necessary.

I just delivery of this model from Home Depot Canada. However it did not come with the electric chute control. The description of this model states that it comes with an electric chute control. Why would mine not have the electric chute control?
Can this part be purchased separately?
After quick research it seems like current units aren’t made with electric chute controls anymore. If there’s still Troy-Bilt Two-Stage snow blowers that are made with electric chute controls they might be compatible but I can’t say for sure and even if they are installing them would likely void warranty.
