Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO – Review

Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO is a battery powered snow blower that can move up to 660 pounds of snow per minute. It has clearing width of 21 inches and clearing depth of 8.

We already know that Snow Joe cord powered snow blowers perform pretty well, but how does this battery powered one does?

Performance

Is Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO as powerful as gas powered snow blowers? No, not even close. So should you just stop reading this review and proceed to buy gas or cord powered snow blower? It depends. Although Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO doesn’t perform as well as them it’s still sufficient in some conditions while retaining advantages of battery powered unit like lack of maintenance or easy of maneuverability.

Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO will handle up to 6-8 inches of light, fluffy snow pretty well. More than that and it likely will start to struggle albeit will still be able to do the job – not as fast as with more powerful units obviously but you won’t be doomed. It can also start to bog down so you might have to go at it a bit slow or go back and forth. Overall in light to medium conditions it performs well.

Snow Joe says that iON21SB-PRO will throw snow up to 20 feet away. It won’t. Chances are you won’t experience it throwing snow further than 10 feet away and that’s in perfect conditions. It barely throws snow if there is less than 2 inches of snow – like 1 feet away.

As expected it handle wet, heavy, slushy snow even less well. It will handle 2-4 inches of it reasonably well, but more than that and it will seriously start to struggle.

Battery

Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO uses 40 V 5.0 Ah EcoSharp PRO rechargeable lithium-ion battery that generally lasts 40-50 minutes on full charge. It takes another 2 or so hours to fully charge once depleted.

Maneuverability

Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO isn’t self-propelled but it’s extremely lightweight – it weighs just 36 lbs (with battery). Because of its lightweight it’s easy to use and maneuver.

Quality

Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO is mostly built from plastic so it doesn’t feel heavy duty or super high quality. Despite that overall quality doesn’t feel terrible – it could be described as average.

Features

Snow Joe iON21SB snow thrower has built-in 3W LED headlight that’s very useful in low-light conditions. Chute can be rotated with a push of a switch in 180 degrees. Snow Joe iON21SB has steel auger and two rubber blades.

Snow Joe iON21SB snow blower is ETL approved and comes with battery and charger that are energy start certified.

Conclusions

Should you buy Snow Joe iON21SB-PRO? It depends. If you don’t need a snow blower for anything more than light to medium duty jobs and don’t want to deal with cord management or inconveniences of gas powered unit then iON21SB-PRO might be sufficient enough for you.
