Greenworks 14-Inch 40V Cordless Chainsaw Review (CS40L210/CS40L2511/CS40L01)

Greenworks CS40L210 (also sold as CS40L2511 and CS40L01) is a battery powered chainsaw that’s equipped with 14-inch guide bar and chain.

Cutting performance

Greenworks 14-Inch 40V cordless chainsaw cuts pretty well. It excels at lighter duty jobs light cutting 5-inch thick limbs and actually has enough power to use the full length of the bar. It’s not the chainsaw you would get exclusively for downing 10+ inches trees or cutting 10+ inch logs but it can handle them reasonably well. It will cut slower than gas chainsaws (or some other more powerful electric chainsaws) but can handle the stuff if there’s need to.

It does have two flaws though you must be aware of. Greenworks CS40L210 chainsaw leaks oil a lot when not in use which makes things very messy. Another issue which is less common is chain constantly slipping off but it seems like a small minority of consumers actually experience it (tip: tighten the chain before your first use).

Battery

Greenworks 14-Inch 40V cordless chainsaw can be bought as either a bare tool or with either 2.0Ah or 2.5Ah battery. It’s also compatible with other Greenworks 40V batteries.

When cutting light stuff 2.0Ah lasts about an hour, if you cut thicker logs then you can expect it to last 20 minutes or even less. Since the battery life isn’t great you should perhaps consider getting a 5.0Ah battery which can be purchases separately but it’s up to you to decide if you need one.

Conclusions

Greenworks 14-Inch 40V cordless chainsaw has decent power for its price but it leaks oil when not in use and some consumers also have issues with chain tension.
