Whynter UIM-155 is an ice maker that makes 12 pounds of ice cubes in 24 hours or half a pound per hour. Doesn’t sound impressive when you find out that cheaper countertop ice makers can make 26-48 lbs in a day depending on model however there’s is a reason why Whynter UIM-155 is more expensive. Why? Let’s find out!
Ice cube production
Whynter UIM-155 makes crescent shaped ice cubes. Ice quality is good but they do melt a bit fest in drinks.
Ice cube storage
Ice bin of Whynter UIM-155 can hold up to 6 lbs of ice cubes and will automatically pause ice production when it’s full. Ice bin is refrigerated meaning made ice cubes won’t melt which is what makes it differ from cheaper ice makers that doesn’t have refrigerated ice storage area and will have their ice cubes melt after being made.
Whynter UIM-155 has front venting so it can be built-in or left freestanding – whichever you find more convenient. It doesn’t require drain and comes with 9 foot 1/4″ food grade water line connection and ice scoop.
Housing is made of stainless steel which makes Whynter UIM-155 look more expensive but the overall design is somewhat old-fashioned so it doesn’t leave impressions of high-end unit.
Whynter UIM-155 has only 1 switch and that’s of course to turn it on or off. Very simple and basic.
Reliability is very confusing when it comes to Whynter UIM-155 because consumer feedback is very mixed. There are lot of reports of Whynter UIM-155 lasting for years without issues, then again there are also many reports after unit breaking after little of use whether it be days, weeks or months.
Seems like reliability of Whynter UIM-155 is like roll of a dice. You might get a unit that ends up working for many many years to come, but you might also get a unit that doesn’t last nowhere near as long.
It seems like Whynter UIM-155 could have better packaging as some consumers have complained that their units were dented during shipping.
Whynter UIM-155 is a great ice maker for the money, that’s when it works. Somewhat common complaints about reliability are very concerning and makes you wonder whether you should really buy it?
