Whynter BWR-1642DZ 164-Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler Review

Whynter BWR-1642DZ is a dual zone wine cooler that can hold up to 164 bottles of wine. Upper temperature zone can hold up to 86 bottles whereas the lower one 78. Keep in mind that this is using only 750mL standard sized bottles so expect to fit slightly less than that.

Operation

Whynter BWR-1642DZ uses R600a refrigerant and you can adjust temperature from 40°F to 65°F (5°C to 18°C). It works pretty good, cools down fast and temperatures are constant. Only slight flaw is that temperature can be off by 1-2 degrees so you might need thermometer to actually attain specific temperature for your wine bottles accurately, but if it’s off by 1 or 2 degrees it seems to stay that way so it’s constant.

Control panel

Whynter BWR-1642DZ is equipped with two LCD displays (one for each temperature zone) that show set temperature and 4 buttons:

• “Bulb” button: Turns interior light on/off.
• “Thermometer” button: Switches between temperature zones.
• “Up” button: Increases temperature in selected temperature zone in 1 degree increments.
• “Down” button: Decreases temperature in selected temperature zone in 1 degree increments.

To turn Whynter BWR-1642DZ wine cooler on or off you have to hold “Bulb” and “Thermometer” buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds.

To switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius or from Celsius to Fahrenheit hold “Bulb” button for 5 seconds.

Features

The maintain the quality of your wine bottles Whynter BWR-1642DZ is equipped with activated carbon filter and has tempered double-pane gray-smoked glass door. The door can be locked and comes with 2 keys.

Shelves are made of metal wire with wood front. They are nice but not as nice as you get with more expensive units. You can also install display shelf to showcase your most prized bottles at an incline for them and their labels to be easily seen but it decreases total capacity by 14 bottles.

Conclusions

For the money Whynter BWR-1642DZ is a great wine cooler. It works well and even though you can’t call it inexpensive it offers good value for money considering the capacity. Overall quality is good even though it’s not the fanciest unit but for those you have to spend a lot more.
