WEN 5662 Snow Blaster – Review
WEN 5662 is electric, cord powered snow thrower with 18 inch clearing width and 7.8 inch intake depth. With its 13.5 Amp motor it can move up to 490 pounds of snow per minute.
It’s similarly priced to Snow Joe SJ618E electric snow blower which has only 13-amp motor and has plowing capacity of up to 550 lbs of snow per minute according to manufacturer.
So can WEN 5662 Snow Blaster be a good alternative to Snow Joe SJ618E?
Performance
WEN 5662 Snow Blaster performs surprisingly well in light snow. It handles up to ~8 inches of it without effort. It can handle more than that too but you will have to do multiple passes (go back and forth) as the intake height is just under 8 inches.
It handles dense and heavy snow pretty well too but as the unit isn’t self-propelled it requires more effort to push it.
How well it handles wet snow depends on how wet it’s. Little bit wet? No problem. Medium wet? Might struggle a bit but still does the job. Very wet? Expect the chute to clog non-stop.
Performance wise it’s almost as good as similarly priced Snow Joe corded snow blower but it does fall behind a bit – especially when it comes to throwing distance. WEN 5662 doesn’t throw heavy snow that far – most of the time just few feet away. It does throw light snow a lot further though. Although it deals with 8 inches of snow well it will still require more time to clean the same area than with larger, more powerful unit.
Quality
Most of the unit is made of plastic with some metal part. It’s by no means a heavy duty item but it shouldn’t cause any problems if you use it with care and don’t abuse.
Maneuverability
WEN 5662 Snow Blaster isn’t self-propelled – you have to push it yourself. In fluffy snow pushing it is really easy since it’s lightweight, however in dense and heavy snow it will require more effort but it’s not horribly exhausting.
Features
Chute is adjustable in 180 degrees with a rotation crank located at control panel.
Conclusions
Is WEN 5662 a good snow blower? For the money it’s, but whether it’s good enough for you depends. It cannot be compared to a two-stage electric or gas snow blower but for some uses it’s sufficient. If you won’t use it often on more than 8 inches of snow and don’t have large driveway then this small unit might be all you need.
