Snow Joe SJ627E Review

Snow Joe SJ627E is the most powerful corded snow blower the company currently makes. Less powerful models from Snow Joe have performed well so expectations for this one are rather high. So does SJ627E live up to them?

Performance

Snow Joe SJ627E has 22 inch clearing width and 13 inches intake height and with its 15-amp motor it can move up to 840 lbs of snow per minute.

It plows through light snow without effort. Clears 13 inches of snow (same as intake height) in one take. More than 13 inches might require multiple passes but SJ627 will do the job just fine.

When it comes to heavy, dense, icy snow it handles it without much struggle as well although you might have to go slower at it.

It handles wet snow pretty well too although not as good as solid one. It might struggle with lots of slushy snow but will handle few inches of that as well.

Throws snow pretty far with maybe some exceptions when it’s slushy.

Maneuverability

Snow Joe SJ627E isn’t self-propelled so you have to push it yourself. Weighing just 34.6 pounds it’s rather lightweight so pushing it in light snow doesn’t require much effort unless snow is really deep, like 10 inches or more. It’s not the same story when it comes to heavy snow – you will have to push it with some effort through it but it’s still much better than shoveling.

This snow blower is cord powered meaning you will have to deal with a cord which can be very annoying if you are not used to it. If at first you feel frustrated don’t worry as you will eventually learn how to deal with the cord.

You have to buy cord separately and it’s very important you get one with proper wire gauge – 14 AWG for cord that’s up to 50 feet long, 12 AWG for cord that’s up to 100 feet long. Buying one that’s specifically designed for cold weather and will remain flexible in freezing temperatures makes cord management a lot simpler too!

Quality

Snow Joe SJ627E is mostly made of plastic although it has steel auger unlike cheaper models from the manufacturer. Due to wide use of plastic it doesn’t feel super sturdy but the unit should be fine as long as you don’t abuse it. For this pricing you can’t expect heavy duty unit but you can feel that Snow Joe put effort into making the vital parts of this snow blower sturdier.

Features

Snow Joe SJ627E has 1.5W LED light on each side of the unit. They aren’t very bright but it’s better than nothing.

Chute is adjustable 180 degrees horizontally and is adjustable vertically too although vertical adjustment is a bit limited.

Conclusions

If you don’t want to deal with inconveniences and maintenance of gas snow blower but can deal with a cord then Snow Joe SJ627E is a great choice.
