Snow Joe SJ619E Review

Snow Joe SJ619E is corded electric snow blower that has clearing path of 18 inches and depth of 8. With its 14.5 amp motor and 2 rubber blades it can clear up to 650 pounds of snow per minute. So how good of a snow blower is it really?

Performance

Not as powerful as gas snow blowers but it does the job, most of the time at least. Works great in fluffy snow – will go through feet of light snow without struggling.

Handles dense snow reasonably well too but not as good as fluffy snow, SJ619E might to bog down at times – it’s no big deal, just pull it back a bit to let it clear and then keep pushing forward.

Frozen ice can be more of a challenge. You might have to break it apart with a shovel depending on how hard and how much there is before letting Snow Joe SJ619E do its job (mainly because it might be near impossible to push it in snow that’s very hard).

Doesn’t work that well in wet/slushy snow too. It will handle few inches of it, but definitely not 8. You can take small passes if there is too much slushy snow. It’s not uncommon for unit to clog with wet snow – in this case you also can try to pull the unit back before continuing to push it forward.

Doesn’t throw snow very far but 5-15 inches depending on conditions is acceptable. Keep in mind if its not clearing enough snow it will struggle with throwing and distance might be only 2 or 3 feet – in this case try to push it a bit faster. At times might struggle to throw wet snow too.

As it’s cord powered snow blower it’s very important to use appropriate power cord – in this case 12-gauge cord (12 AWG). Using cord with gauge rating of more than 12 is very likely to reduce performance and even break the snow blower!

Quality

Nearly all parts of Snow Joe SJ619E are made of plastic. The unit doesn’t feel that solid but despite first impressions it turns out it’s actually sturdy enough.

Ease of use

Snow Joe SJ619E is easy to use. It’s very light as it weighs just 30.25 lbs so even though it’s not self-propelled it’s easy to push, maneuver and for most adults even to pick up. There are only two real complaints about ease of use: Unit had be hard to push in dense, hard snow (you might have to break it apart manually) and the fact that you have to deal with cord.

If you have had no experience with corded snow blowers then it’s likely that you will find managing cord at least a bit annoying at first but don’t give up on SJ619E just yet – you will adapt and get used to it faster than you think and then it will become second nature to you.

Snow Joe SJ619E has 3W LEd headlight for nighttime operation. Chute rotates 180 degrees. Handles are foldable for easier storing. It also ETL approved meaning it meets North American safety standards.

Conclusions

Snow Joe SJ619E isn’t made for heavy duty jobs but it’s sufficient for light-to-medium duty ones. Considering the price and the fact that it’s electric unit it performs well.
