Snow Joe SJ617E is a corded single stage snow blower that cuts 18 inches wide and 8 inches deep with its 2 blade plastic auger. According to Snow Joe it can clear up to 550 lbs of snow per minute with its 12-amp motor.

Other Snow Joe corded snow blowers have proven to be quite capable – can the cheaper SJ617E model in their lineup live up to the expectations?

Performance

Snow Joe SJ617E is disappointing. It can really handle only light, fluffy snow and even then just few inches of it. Anything more than very light conditions and it starts to struggle. It’s not up to par with other Snow Joe units.

Ease of use

Other than poor performance and cord management it’s easy to use. Snow Joe SJ617E just 25.9 pounds making is very easy to maneuver and even pick up – it barely weighs anything.

Chute rotates in 180 degrees. Tire size is 6.3 inches. Unit is ETL approved.

Snow Joe SJ617E is 39.76 inches deep, 38.6 inches high and 19.49 inches wide.

If for some unimaginable reason you decide to purchase Snow Joe SJ617E snow blower be sure to get appropriate cord as otherwise you might damage the motor. Look for 12 gauge cord (12 AWG), preferably one that’s designed for use in cold temperatures so it remains flexible.

Conclusions

Snow Joe SJ617E doesn’t perform anywhere near as good as other Snow Joe models. It’s really only usable in very light conditions. If you want electric corded snow blower just get Snow Joe SJ627E – it performs heaps better and is just slightly more expensive especially since you have to purchase cord separately anyway.

If you want battery powered snow blower it seems that currently only unit for sale that performs properly is Snow Joe iON100V-21SB – but it’s very expensive.
