Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V Snow Blower Review

Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V is a battery snow blower with 2800W brushless motor. It has clearing width of 24 inches, intake height of 13 inches and can clear up to 1,000 pounds of snow per minute according to the manufacturer.

It’s apparently of the most advanced Snow Joe snow blowers currently but is it really among the best?

Performance

Performance of Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V snow blower is not adequate for the price. It can handle a bit of fluffy snow but not much of it – it will likely struggle with anything more than few inches.

It’s also almost completely useless in wet, slushy snow. In slushy snow it just keeps getting clogged all the time and struggles to throw snow.

Transmission

Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V is self-propelled: it has 3 forward speeds and 1 reverse. Even on fastest speed it’s a bit slow.

Quality

Overall the unit feels cheaply made. Many parts doesn’t feel durable chute including.

Ergonomics

Ergonomically this snow blower is badly design. The way you have to hold handles makes your hands tired so it’s not comfortable to use more than few minutes at a time.

Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V has built-in dual headlights – they are pretty weak though and almost useless in dark time.

Assembly

Once you receive the unit you will have to do a bit of assembly but it’s simple and shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete.

Batteries

Snow Joe iON24SB-XR comes with two 40 V 5.0 Ah batteries (it runs on both simultaneously) that lasts 20-30 minutes on full charge depending on conditions. It takes around 2 hours to recharge them though.

Reliability

Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V snow blower seems to be incredibly unreliable. Majority of consumer feedback is complaining about reliability. Some have had their original unit breaking and then subsequent 2 replacement units breaking too each after few uses.

If there are reports from people who have had 3 snow blowers break after couple uses each it just shows that the quality isn’t there.

Conclusions

Snow Joe iON24SB-XR 80V is unreliable snow blower that underperforms. It’s not worth the money.

Perhaps you should check out Snow Joe iON100V-21SB which is a different snow blower from same manufacturer. It’s reliable and performs better while being similarly priced but it’s still not as powerful as similarly priced gas snow blowers.
