Snow Joe iON15SB-LT 40V iONMAX Cordless Snow Blower – Review

Snow Joe iON15SB-LT is a 40 Volt battery powered snow blower. It has clearing width of 15 inches and intake height of 8. Manufacturer claims it has plowing capacity of up to 441 pounds per minute. So it being a relatively inexpensive electric snow blower can it really be any useful?

Performance

Snow Joe iON15SB-LT handles 8 inches of light snow without issues. It can plow through more than that too but that’s when it might start to struggle a bit – you might have to push it slower or do more than 1 pass.

When it comes to wet/heavy snow it performs less well. It can still handle few inches of it reasonably well but with it might start to struggle with anything more than 4 inches deep. Over 4 inches of wet/slushy snow and chute might start to clog.

Battery

Snow Joe iON15SB-LT comes with 40 volt 2.5Ah lithium ion battery – which only last for about 20 minutes. If that’s not enough for you then 4.0Ah and 6.0Ah batteries can be purchase separately.

2.5Ah battery takes about 90-120 minutes to fully charge. Be warned that you might not be able to charge it right after using it as it might need to warm up a bit first.

Quality

Snow Joe iON15SB-LT feels plasticky (which is kinda obvious since that’s what it’s mainly made of) and a bit flimsy too. It doesn’t mean it won’t last long or is prone to breaking but it certainly doesn’t feel like a heavy duty device.

Maneuverability

Snow Joe iON15SB-LT is not self-propelled but it weighs just 20.9 pounds – so it’s very lightweight. How hard to push it depends on snow: 6-8 inches of light snow and it’s almost effortless. More than that or heavy, icy snow and it starts to require more effort.

Noise

Just as expected from an electric unit Snow Joe iON15SB-LT snow thrower is pretty quiet.

Conclusions

Is Snow Joe iON15SB-LT a good snow blower? It depends. For light jobs it performs well without any inconveniences of a gas powered unit. But when it comes to seriously deep snow or snow that’s wet or very heavy and deeper than a few inches it will most likely let you down.
