Smad HZB-12A-4 26lb Portable Ice Maker Machine Review

Smad HZB-12A-4 portable ice maker can produce up to 26 pounds of ice per day, or about 1 pound per hour. Ice production can keep up with a demand of one or two people but three or more people will likely consume ice faster than the unit can produce.

It makes 9 hollow bullet shaped ice cubes per batch. Each batch takes 6-13 minutes to make depending on ice cube size setting (2 available) selected as well water and ambient (air) temperatures.

Ice cube quality is good but not great. They are soft but come out a bit wet. They will freeze together if you put them inside a freezer but melt if you leave them inside the ice basket for a prolonged time as it’s not refrigerated.

Features

Smad HZB-12A-4 ice maker has sensors that detect if water reservoir is empty or ice basket is full in which case it will pause ice production and warn you through it’s indicator lights. Ice cube basket is removable.

Water reservoir capacity is 2.2 liters (~74 oz) and ice basket stores up to 1.5 pounds of ice cubes.

Control Panel

This unit has only two buttons: For turning the ice maker on or off and for selecting ice cube size.

It also has 5 indicator lights: “S” and “L” indicate which ice cube size setting you have chosen (S for small, L for Large), “Power” that indicates that unit is turned on as well two warning indicators “Add water” and “Ice full” which ares elf-explanatory.

Conclusions

Smad HZB-12A-4 is a decent ice maker but it’s far from perfect which isn’t surprising considering the price. However for many this unit will be sufficient in its performance, quality and abilities.
