Sboly HY-1421 Electric Burr Coffee Grinder Review

Sboly HY-1421 is electric burr coffee grinder with stainless steel burr grinder but it’s relatively inexpensive for one. Does it grind well and evenly and offer enough variety of grind smoothness to be considered a good burr coffee grinder?

Grinding

Sboly HY-1421 grinds well, for the most part at least. It’s small (7″ x 4.3″ x 9.5″) and easy to use. For coarse and medium grind Sboly HY-1421 is perfect and does the job great. However if you are really serious about your coffee then perhaps Sboly HY-1421 isn’t the grinder for you. It doesn’t grind as fine as you might want to for if you drink espresso. It also doesn’t grind as evenly as more expensive grinders. Don’t be mistaken – it produces even and fine grind but there’s room for improvement. For many Sboly HY-1421 will be sufficient but if it’s not then you have to look for coffee grinder that cost at least 3 times as much to feel difference. It really depends how spoiled you are on how much you are willing to spend.

Grinding Settings

With 18 different grind setting it leaves you with a wide range of options. From chunky and coarse french press and percolator to medium drip coffee to fine or extra fine espresso. As some beans break easier than others the variety of grind settings is important to achieve just the right smoothness. You likely won’t find use for every setting but there’s enough of them so you can get the right grind but not too many where it becomes confusing.

It also has adjustable quantity from 2-12 cups of grounds.

Quality

Overall build quality is as you might expect from a budget price appliance. Sboly HY-1421 doesn’t feel fragile or something that wouldn’t last but it’s definitely not as solid and well built as expensive units.

Conclusions

Sboly HY-1421 is what you might consider entry level burr coffee grinder. If you never had one before you will likely love it but if you have had past experience with burr grinders that cost at least 3 times as much it might not be up to par with your expectations. For the money it’s a really great unit but that doesn’t make it as good as more serious grinders.
