Ryobi RY253SS is a gas powered string trimmer. It has 2-cycle 25cc full crankshaft engine. It has a cutting swath of 18 inches and uses 0.095″ dual string line. So far it seems very promising but is it really worth the money?
Ryobi RY253SS is pretty weak compared to other gas powered string trimmers. It still does the job but it will take longer to finish same area than with other gas string trimmers.
One of the flaws is that it tends to be difficult to start and takes a long time to warm up.
It has fuel tank with a capacity of 12 oz. On full tank it runs for 30-35 minutes.
Overall build quality isn’t bad but it’s not great too. Some parts of this string trimmer feels a bit flimsy but it’s not too bad.
Reliability seems to be a major issue with this unit which many consumers have complained about. They are not uncommon to break and carburetor is very finicky too!
Ryobi RY253SS is less noisy than most gas string trimmers but you still won’t call it quiet. It’s still louder than electric units.
Ryobi RY253SS has straight shaft design which is preferred by most. It’s attachment friendly and should fit with most universal fit attachments.
It also has Reel-Easy line fill feature which makes threading string a lot simpler. It’s not the best system but it’s decent. You have to thread string through head and twist the head.
Auxiliary and throttle handles have some cushioning.
As a string trimmer Ryobi RY253SS is pretty flawed one. You would be better off to look for a different model.
