Rancilio Rocky SD Espresso Coffee Grinder Review

Rancilio Rocky SD is burr coffee grinder mainly designed for espresso. It’s equipped with 50 millimeter flat tempered steel burrs and 140 watt motor.

Grinding

Rancilio Rocky SD excels at grinding for espresso. It can grind very fine and grind consistency is excellent.

Even though it’s marketed as an espresso grinder it does a good job of coarser grinds too. Pour over and Aeropress grinds are very good.

If you talk about coarse grinds French Press and Cold Brew it’s not the best burr grinder at this price point but still does an acceptable job (however this is still debated as some think it doesn’t grind coarse enough).

In terms of speed it grinds pretty fast and it also isn’t as loud as most other burr grinders. Bean hopper holds 300 grams (10.5 oz) of coffee beans.

Nothing is perfect though so there are some flaws. There’s some retention as some of the grounds coffee remain at the top of the chute after grinding. Also grounds coffee might come out in clumps on finer settings. Those are the only complaints however and Rancilio Rocky SD is still an excellent burr grinder overall.

Quality

Rancilio Rocky SD burr grinders feels really robust. It’s well made and should last for years to come.

Controls

Grinds coarsness is adjusted by twisting grounds container. Once you have done that you can start grinding by pressing black switch located at the bottom of burr grinder (don’t forget to turn it on as “On/Off” switch is located on the right side of the grinder).

Features

Rancilio Rocky SD has removable portafilter support so you can grind directly into portafilter. Removing upper burr for cleaning is pretty simple task.

Rancilio Rocky SD is a superb burr grinder for espresso coffee. If you want to enjoy some of the best tasting espresso you have ever had then Rancilio Rocky SD is up to the task. If you have used cheaper grinders in the past you will definitely notice a immensely better flavor.
