PowerSmart PS76120A 10-Inch 20V Cordless Chainsaw Review

PowerSmart PS76120A is a small electric battery powered chainsaw with 10-inch bar and chain with 0.043” gauge. It’s a 20-Volt system that allows chain to move at 18 feet per second (5.6 m/s) at no load.

Cutting performance

PowerSmart PS76120A is not very powerful which isn’t all that surprising. As a smaller chainsaw it’s obviously designed for lighter duty jobs. A chain speed of 18 feet per second isn’t impressive at all but it’s within the normal range of other electric chainsaws of similar size (for example BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 moves it chain at 11.5 feet per second, considerably slower than PS76120A). However keep in mind that although chain speed has some correlation with cutting speed/performance it’s not the only factor – sometimes chainsaws with slower chain speed can cut better.

So what kind of jobs can PowerSmart PS76120A do reasonably well? Cutting wood of few inches in diameter like small logs, trees, limbs, saplings etc. For anything that’s more than 4-6 inches in diameter you will likely want a more serious chainsaw.

Features

PowerSmart PS76120A has all the features you would expect from modern chainsaw like tool-less chain tensioning, automatic chain and bar oiler as well chain brake.

Battery

PowerSmart PS76120A comes with 20V 1.5 Ah lithium-ion battery. Battery life depends on how and what you cut but overall don’t expect it to last long on full charge. In other words battery life is not great, you will likely need at least 1 extra battery.

The 20V 1.5 Ah lithium-ion battery it comes with is compatible with other PowerSmart 20-Volt tools.

Ergonomics

PowerSmart PS76120A weighs just 7.5 lbs which is super light for a chainsaw in general but it’s not a fair comparison since most chainsaws are larger. If we compare it to other similarly sized battery powered chainsaws it’s actually a bit heavier than some of them.

For example BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 20V MAX weighs 7.2 lbs while Ryobi P546 just 6.5 lbs – both of them are battery powered chainsaws with 10-inch bar and chain.

Conclusions

PowerSmart PS76120A is a pretty niche chainsaw. It’s not something you would use for most applications but in some situations it can be the right tool to use. However the similarly priced BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 20V MAX chainsaw seems to be a better alternative other than the lack of auto oiling feature since it does cut better and feel a bit better made.
