Pit Boss 75275 200P Stainless Steel Two-Burner Portable Grill Review

Pit Boss Grills 75275 (also known as Pit Boss 200P) is a portable stainless steel 2-burner gas grill with 274 square inches cooking area and 20,000 BTU/hr heat output.

Grilling with Pit Boss 75275/200P

Pit Boss 75275 heats up fast and gets plenty hot enough. You can easily sit at 450°F to 600°F and even go over 600°F if the weather is nice and it’s not windy. As far as temperatures goes the only compaint here is that you could have more control over the lower range of heat control (it runs hot) but this is a common flaw for portable grills.

Each burner can be operated independetly which gives you more control over the heat. From factory Pit Boss 75275 is compatible with 20 pound propane tanks but you can buy adapter that will make it compatible with 1 pound tanks which might be more convenient to use when you are traveling.

Cooking grate is made of 304 stainless steel and is really thick compared to other portable grills – it soaks heat really well which helps a lot with grill marks. What you want to do is to warm up the grill with lid closed and once it achieves 600°F or more let it sit there for a few minutes so the grate really soaks in all the heat and then you can cook and will get quite decent grill marks.

This model is equipped with heat deflectors. They do a good job of reducing flare ups however if a lot of fat ends up dripping on specific spot you still might experience some flare ups.

Because of the heat deflectors you don’t really cook with direct heat which will be a negative for some but this grill does really cook quite well.

Pit Boss 75275 unit has a lot of vents on the sides and because of this the grill will struggle in windy conditions however there is a work around – you can cover the vents (some or all) with aluminum foil which will fix the issue.

Ignition

Pit Boss 75275 is equipped with push-and-turn ignition which works fine. With that being said some consumers have had issues with ignition reliability and reported it breaking after some use (doesn’t seem to be an issuewith most units though).

Pull out greasy tray

Pit Boss 75275 is equipped with pull-out grease tray and most of the time it works as intended – the grease flows into the tray and everything is great. With that being said the grease might sometimes run down one of the legs.

The cause of this seems to be that small part of floor pan is angled towards that leg instead of grease tray and if grease drips in specific location then it will not end up being redirected to the grease tray. Instead it will drip down an open seam that’s not welded on the side.

This open seam can be covered with a sealant that’s specifically designed for grills – look for one that certified and doesn’t emit harmful chemicals under heat.

Quality

The overall build quality is decent… for a portable grill. The grill is fully stainless steel and although metal sheets are a bit thicker than on many portable grills they are still quite thin compared to full sized gas grill which begs the question – how long will they last before rust appears?

Portability

Pit Boss 75275 weighs 22 pounds and measures 22.9” inches by 18.5” inches by 14.7” inches. It’s a little bit bigger than most portable grills yet not as big as full sized gas grill and in this case this seems like a really good compromise – you can cook for a family of 4 yet it’s not too heavy or too large if you travel with a car/RV.

Verdict

Despite some of the minor flaws Pit Boss 75275 is a pretty good portable gas grill for the money. Don’t expect wonders as this is not a full sized high-end gas grill but for a portable grill it works and cooks fairly well!
