Philips HD9741/99 3-Quart Air Fryer Review

Philips HD9741/99 is basket type air fryer with 3-quart cooking capacity.

Cooking

Philips HD9741/99 air fryer really does cook well. French Fries come out crispy on inside and soft on inside without using any oil however if you spray a bit of it on them then they will be even crispier. Pretty much anything you cook comes out delicious. Steaks are juicy and so are chicken wings which come out with a nice, crispy skin.

Works pretty good for reheating leftovers too. They taste a lot better than when heated with microwave albeit not as good as fresh.

To make cooking easier Philips HD9741/99 has 4 presets: frozen fries, meat, fish and chicken drumsticks.

One thing to note is that Philips HD9741/99 is a smaller air fryer. With 3-quart capacity you can’t fit much inside. It’s enough to cook for 1 or 2 persons but not more.

Quality

Build quality is ok. Philips HD9741/99 is mostly made of plastic parts so it doesn’t feel as sturdy or well made as models with metal housing.

Controls

Philips HD9741/99 has display screen, dial for adjustments and only 5 physical buttons making it very simple to use.

Features

Philips HD9741/99 features cool wall exterior (the housing doesn’t get hot like it does on some of the other brand air fryers), dishwasher safe cooking basket and non-slip feet at the bottom of the air fryer.

Fat removal technology

Philips advertises that this air fryer has some kind of a fat removal technology which reduces fat by to 90% in your meals compared to cooking in some of the other brand air fryers or standard oven.

How it works and whether it really works is under question. It would be interesting to see how the tests were done, if they used oil in other devices but none in this air fryer then it would make sense how they reduced fat contents by up to 90% but how fair would be such comparison is another question.

Maybe there is some design solution that really increases fat removal from the food like mesh insert that allows the grease to flow away from the food. In such case you might be able to enjoy the delicious food with less guilt.

Verdict

Philips HD9741/99 air fryer cooks really well however it’s quite expensive. In fact it’s multitude of times more expensive than some of the other similarly sized air fryers we have written about. It works really well but it does feel too expensive for what it offers. It doesn’t have any fancy features either so it’s a bit hard to justify the price tag. Philips is a reputable brand so perhaps that helps.
