Ovente KD640B Portable 1.7 Liter Electric Kettle


Ovente KD640B is electric kettle with 1.7 capacity. It’s equipped with 1100 watt heating element.


Performance

Ovente KD640B boils water reasonably fast however it’s not the fastest kettle by any means. More expensive kettles typically has 1500 watt heating element whereas Ovente has 1100 watt so it takes 1-3 minutes longer to heat up the water. It’s also a bit loud when heating water.

One weird thing about this kettle is that you can’t see how full it’s from the outside, it doesn’t have a transparent window or volume markings.

Some consumers complained about plastic smell but perhaps they didn’t read instructions where it says you should clean the kettle before using (pour in solution and let it rest) and do few cycles of rinsing afterwards.


Features

Ovente KD640B allegedly has double-wall stainless steel interior which is not very common for kettles this cheap. Double wall design keeps water warmed for longer and reduces warmth of the outside of kettle making it safer to touch. For some reason this feature doesn’t seem to work very well on this kettle as in some cases outside can get warm or hot (including handle). What makes it worse is that hot steam escapes through different spots too (i.e. on/off button).

Other features include auto shut off, boil dry protection and spout filter.


Possible issues

Some consumers have had issues with reliability reported Ovente KD640B electric kettle breaking after few months of use. It’s hard to estimate how common this problem is.

Another issue that some consumers have had has to do with base. It’s made of thin, cheap plastic resulting in leakage in some cases.


Verdict

Ovente KD640B does the job of boiling water but considering its flaws it’s a mediocre electric kettle at best which is not really surprising considering that it’s quite inexpensive.
