Oster Toaster Oven Review

Oster TSSTTVDGXL-SHP is a toaster oven with 6 cooking functions: Toast, Bake, Broil, Warm, Defrost and Pizza. It also has Convection mode.

Cooking with Oster Toaster Oven

Oster Toaster Oven runs a bit hot so there’s some learning curve. You will likely end up having to use lower temperature that recipes indicate.

It also does cook a bit unevenly, the back seems to be hotter than front. The difference isn’t so stark that it would ruin your food but you might want to turn your pan around halfway through cooking for consistent results.

Cooking functions work quite well except for Toasting – bread ends up being either burnt or not toasted enough.

One annoying thing is that there’s no indicator light for when oven has reached selected temperature so you cannot accurately preheat it.

All in all Oster toaster oven is far from perfect however one of its redeeming qualities is that it’s quite affordable. Despite not being as good as more expensive models you can still have fairly delicious results when you learn to live with its flaws.

Accessories

Oster TSSTTVDGXL-SHP toaster oven comes with 2 oven racks, baking pan and integrated broiling rack.

Control Panel

Oster TSSTTVDGXL-SHP toaster oven has a digital control panel that’s a bit different compared to other models – there are no dials for adjustments. Instead you adjust the temperature and time by pressing buttons. This is actually less conveniant and takes longer than with a dial so you could consider that to be a small drawback. Other than that it’s fairly intuitive and easy to use.

Possible issues

Some consumers reported this model only lasting 1-3 years whereas there are also some that reported it lasting far longer. The more concerning issue is that some have reported the glass window shattering which can be dangerous.

As it’s the case with many countertop ovens the housing (outside) does get quite hot. It can actually get hot enough to burn your hand if you touch the outside so you have to be careful. Even though this is a common problem for countertop ovens it seems to be a bit more pronounced on this model than usual. Even the handle can get quite warm.

Verdict

Oster TSSTTVDGXL-SHP is a fairly affordable countertop oven so it’s important to have realistic expectations. It’s not going to be perfect and it will have some flaws that more expensive units don’t but you can still have well cooked and tasty food with it. With that being said this is a mediocre countertop oven at best even though it’s far from being the worst at this price point. If you are willing to spend more money there are a lot of great countertop ovens including Breville BOV845BSS or Ninja DT251 Foodi. If you want the best then you could check out June Smart Oven too but be warned – that one is wildly expensive!
