Ninja SP101 Foodi is 8-in-1 1800-watt digital air fryer that can cook in temperatures up to 450°F which is more than most air fryers which usually have a temperature limit of 400°F.
Ninja SP101 Foodi is a new model with very interesting design so let’s see how well it performs!
Ninja SP101 Foodi heats up fast and is very quiet however it doesn’t cook as evenly as other air fryers. In some cases one part of food can be overcooked whereas other part is undercooked at same time. Sometimes it also fails to get that crispiness on outside you get with other air fryers or dries inside of your food (fries or toast for example) which is again not an issue with many other air fryers. It does sometimes cook delicious food but overall it’s hit-or-miss.
Majority of consumers do seem to be very happy with their Ninja SP101 Foodi so perhaps these issues aren’t found in all units.
Cooking chamber is shallow which limits what you can cook. There’s in only about 1.5 inches of actual cooking height there when you are air frying. On the upside it’s wider than most air fryers which allows you to cook some other foods you wouldn’t be able with other models like 13-inch pizzas and a lot more fries.
Ninja SP101 Foodi is super simple to use, controls are intuitive and well thought of. It’s equipped with LCD display that not only shows temperature and cooking time left but also features many indicator lights which can display all kinds of useful information.
For actual controls you get a multipurpose dial that also works as a button to start or pause cooking and 4 regular buttons. With the dial you select function, time and temperature. The rest of 4 buttons are:
- “Time/Slice” button: Press to adjust cooking time. If you have selected Toast or Bagel function press this button to adjust number of slices.
- “Temperature/Darkness” button: Press to adjust cooking temperature. If you have selected Toast or Bagel function press this button to adjust darkness level.
- “Power” button: Press to turn air fryer on or off.
- “Light” button: press to turn chamber light on or off which is a neat feature and allows you to watch your food being cooked.
To switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales hold “Temp/Darkness” button for 3 seconds (won’t work if air fryer is already cooking).
Ninja SP101 Foodi has 8 functions aka presets: “air fry”, “air roast”, ”air broil”, ”bake”, ”toast”, ”bagel”, ”dehydrate” and ”keep warm” (keeps you food warm for up to 2 hours).
Ninja SP101 Foodi comes with crumb tray, wire rack, sheet pan and air fry basket. They are dishwasher safe. You can flip Ninja SP101 Foodi for compact storage. On the back there’s place to store cord.
Once Ninja SP101 Foodi has heated up or finished cooking it will warn you with bell sounds.
Ninja SP101 Foodi is quite tedious to clean, getting in certain places is difficult, but you absolutely need to clean it after each time you cook otherwise next time you cook your food will come out greasy and might be cross-contaminated flavor wise.
With its sleek, modern design, beautiful controls and stainless steel housing Ninja SP101 Foodi is one of the most beautiful air fryers you can buy.
Size and weight
Ninja SP101 Foodi 8-in-1 Digital Air Fryer weighs 18.57 pounds and measures 19.7 inches wide by 7.6 inches deep by 15 inches tall.
Some consumers have complained about air fry basket rusting.
Ninja makes a lot of good products but this is not one of them (it does have pretty positive consumer feedback overall though so one could wonder if flaws mentioned in this review aren’t found in all units).
The core idea is good and with some improvements it really does have a potential to be amazing air fryer so let’s hope they release updated model that cooks better and perhaps has more cooking height.
