Ninja DT201 Foodi XL Pro is a 10-in-1 air fryer/countertop oven. It has True Surround Convection system that makes cooking faster and food crispier as well juicier.

Ninja DT201 Foodi XL Pro preheats super fast – in just 1 minute or two which is significantly faster than most countertop ovens. It cooks evenly but there might be a slight hotstop at the back of the oven (but it doesn’t affect results much).

Overall it cooks quite well. When you compare it to less expensive countertop ovens Ninja DT201 Foodi does cook food more evenly and does a better job of crisping too when using convection. There are some inexpensive countertop ovens that do perform pretty well too but Ninja DT201 Foodi XL Pro still beats them.

The interior is quite large so you can cook large amounts of food in one go however the byproduct of this is that the oven is quite large itself too.

There are 4 tray levels and you can effectively cook on 2 at the same time. Ninja DT201 Foodi XL Pro will even show which ones you should use depending on the cooking settings.

Cooking functions

Ninja DT201 Foodi XL Pro l countertop convection toaster oven has 10 cooking functions. 6 of them are True Surround Convection (whole roast, air roast, air fry, pizza, bake and dehydrate)

Whereas rest of them simply use top and/or bottom heating element (broil, toast, bagel and reheat)

Six of them are True Surround Convection cooking functions (whole roast, air roast, air fry, pizza, bake and dehydrate) while the other 4 simply use top and/or bottom heating elements without fan (broil, toast, bagel and reheat).

Noise

It has a large and powerful fan so on convection modes can be a bit louder than usual but only because it’s also more effective.

Ninja DT201 vs Ninja DT251 – What’s the difference?

Ninja DT251 comes with temperature probe and has smart-cook system that regulates the heating elements for best cooking performance.

In practice Smart-cook system does slightly increase the performance and eveness of cooking but the difference is not too significant.

The temperature probe is also pretty important feature if you want your meat to be cooked to perfection. Ninja DT201 still does a great job of making meat delicious but you can’t really make it precisely perfect without measuring its temperature.

Overall Ninja DT251 is certainly worth the premium however Ninja DT201 can be a solid choice too if you want to save some money.

Other

Housing can get warm/hot while cooking which is typical for a countertop oven. Interior is fully stainless steel. There’s no nonstick coating so you don’t have to worry about PTFE or PFOA fumes however lack of it also makes it a bit harder to clean.

Verdict

Even though Ninja DT201 Foodi XL Pro is not among least expensive countertop ovens it’s still relatively affordable and works very well. It offers a good balance of affordability, performance and functionality – even though slightly more expensive Ninja DT251 does seem to be a better option for most consumers as it has additional features and is only slightly more expensive.
