Mr. Coffee IDS77 12 Cup Electric Coffee Grinder Review (IDS77RB)

Mr. Coffee IDS77 (also known as Mr. Coffee IDS77RB) is coffee blade grinder with 3 grind settings (coarse, medium and fine) and 200 watt motor. It grinds 4 to 12 cups worth of coffee beans at a time.

Grinding

Grind evenness is ok for a blade grinder but it doesn’t come close to even cheapest burr grinders. If you have owned burr grinder it’s hard to imagine you will be satisfied by how this grinder grinds. Compared to other blade grinders there are models who grind more consistently but also plenty of models who do worse hence why grind is just ok for a blade grinder. There are large chunks in any grind setting which is a let down.

It’s kinda loud during grinding process and the motor sounds like it’s struggling or something which might indicate that it won’t last long.

Controls

Mr. Coffee IDS77 has 2 buttons – one for selecting grind fineness (coarse, medium or fine) and another one for selecting cups to be grinded (4, 6, 8, 10 or 12). Each setting also has separate indicator light so which illuminates when it has been selected.

To start grinding press and hold lid.

Features

Parts are easy to disassemble for cleaning. Housing is made of plastic.

Conclusions

No blade grinder is ever optimal for grinding coffee beans – a lesson everyone learns when they get to use burr grinder for the first time. With that being said many coffee drinkers still aren’t ready to pay a lot of money for a good burr grinder and are content with a blade grinder (however be warned, there’s no coming back for burr grinder!).

Mr. Coffee IDS77 is pretty inexpensive yet offers adjustability many other blade grinders lack. It does disappoint a bit in the consistency of grind which is mediocre at best. It’s pretty inexpensive though so it’s hard to complain and most consumers seem to be satisfied with it.
