Milwaukee M18 (2725-21HD) 18V String Trimmer Review
Milwaukee M18 2725-21HD is a cordless electric string trimmer powered by 18V 9Ah battery. It offers great performance for a 18V machine and is as powerful if not more powerful that bigger trimmers.
It has two speed settings low (4,600 RPM) and high (5,800 RPM). Low speed setting is powerful enough to tackle most jobs and saves battery life whereas high speed setting will handle even the toughest jobs with ease.
It accepts 25′ x 0.080″ and 20′ x 0.095″ cutting lines and has adjustable cutting swath from 14″ to 16″. Even though performance with 0.095″ line is noticeably better than with 0.080″, the latter handles overgrowth just fine.
Ergonomics
Milwaukee M18 2725-21HD has good ergonomics. It doesn’t feel too heavy or too light – it’s well balanced and comfortable to use. Main handle provides great grip and control whereas support handle is softer and does a good job of absorbing vibrations created by trimmer.
Battery life
Milwaukee claims M18 2725-21HD has battery life of 1 hour – which might be the case for low demand jobs on the low speed setting. Realistically you can expect battery to last 35-40 minutes on normal conditions using the high speed setting. For some really heavy jobs (you are unlikely to witness) it only lasts 15-20 minutes on high speed setting.
Features
Milwaukee 2725-21HD has powerstate brushless motor which has longer lifetime and delivers more power under load. It also has REDLINK PLUS intelligence system that provides communication between trimmer, battery and charger for maximized performance and overload protection.
As previously mentioned Milwaukee M18 has adjustable cutting swath that can be adjustem from 14 to 16 inches. To adjust cutting diameter:
- Remove the battery pack
- Remove two screws holding line cut-off blade
- Rotate the blade by 180°, put screws back in and tighten them securely.

Bump feed system
Bump feed system works just like it does on most string trimmers. In the beginning it’s slightly stiff. It works better with 0.095” string line because with the 0.080” line you might not hear line cutting off when you hit it on the ground.

Noise
As expected for electric string trimmer it’s less noisy that gas powered ones. On average it outputs around 85 decibels.
Conclusions
Overall Milwaukee M18 (2725-21HD) is a very good cordless string trimmer. It’s powerful, comfortable to use and has decent battery life.
