Midea MRC050S0AWW 5.0 Cubic Feet Chest Freezer Review

Midea MRC050S0AWW is a chest freezer with 5.0 cubic foot storage capacity but with market filled with many alternatives is this the best choice?

Operation

You can set temperature anywhere from -0.4°F to -13°F (-18°C to -25°C), that’s according to manufacturer. Sometimes claims don’t reflect reality but in this case they seem to be true for the most part. Actual temperatures it can achieve varies depending on how much food you put inside and possibly on air temperature too.

For example when full on maximum (coldest) temperature setting it might achieve -13°F or it can be close to it but few degrees warmer (still cold enough to keep your food frozen solid). If it’s partially full or empty it might even get colder than claimed. It also cools down pretty fast, no more than few hours.

Overall it can get colder than most chest freezers but there are some models that can get even colder. Do you even need your chest freezer to be colder than -13°F or close to it? Probably not, for most this chest freezer gets more than cold enough. You certainly can’t complain.

Control panel

Midea MRC050S0AWW is equipped with a simple dial thermostat which allows you to adjust temperature or turn it off when you leave it on “Off” setting. It doesn’t have any indicator lights that illuminate when it’s on – a feature most other chest freezers do have so you can’t really tell whether it’s on or off with a glance (especially since it’s very quiet even though it’s not completely noiseless). It’s not a major flaw but rather a slight imperfection.

Features

Midea MRC050S0AWW features front drain plug and comes with a single wire basket. Door can remain open from 45 to 75 degree angle so you don’t have to hold it when putting food inside (or taking it out).

Shipping

Chest freezers sometimes develop dents during harsh shipping conditions. It seemingly happens with any model but it’s the frequency that varies. When it comes to Midea MRC050S0AWW it seems like this is a less frequent occurrence compared to most other models.

Conclusions

Midea MRC050S0AWW is a basic yet effective chest freezer. It might lack some features that might not matter much but it can get pretty cold and doesn’t take long to once you turn it on. It’s definitely among the best choices when it comes to chest freezers of 5 cubic foot capacity however there are other decent models too. You might be able to find another model that’s more or less just as good as MRC050S0AWW that’s less expensive and in that case that one might be ultimately a better choice, but if you can’t then it seems like you can’t go wrong with Midea. As pricing of models tend to vary over time we can’t give one definitive answer which model offers the best value for money as the answer can change every few weeks or months.
