Makita XRU02Z Review

Consumers seem to love Makita XRU02Z string trimmer but is it really all that good?

Performance

Makita XRU02Z does 7,800 RPM at no load and has cutting swath of 10.25 inches.

Cutting performance is okay’ish. It handles light to medium duty stuff like grass and regular weeds well but harder jobs like overgrowths, thick bushes, tree branches

String line it comes with is pretty trash too, replacing it with a better one improves performance.

For your basic yard maintenance Makita XRU02Z works well enough, but it’s not powerful enough for heavier jobs or commercial use.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics are pretty good even if you are a bit over 6 feet tall. Handle swivels and telescoping shaft is adjustable from 48.5 to 56.5 inches. It’s also very light – without a battery it weighs 6.4 lbs (with battery which is not included!) so it causes much less muscle fatigue than heavier units.

Features

Makita XRU02Z has bump feed mechanism but it doesn’t work all that well as you have to whack it kinda hard. Makita XRU02Z can be turned into edger but in edging mode it’s even more difficult to advance string.

Conclusions

For light to medium duty jobs Makita XRU02Z performs well but it’s far from gas powered units power wise. It also has some other small flaws but despite that most of the consumers seem to love it!
