Luma IM200SS is a portable countertop ice maker that can make up to 28 pounds of ice cubes every day. So how does it compare to competition?
Luma IM200SS makes a batch of 24 square shaped ice cubes every 15-30 minutes. Ice cube quality is very good and they are crystal-clear which is often not the case with ice made by other ice makers. Unfortunately ice cubes do melt quite fast but there is a way to fix this – while ice maker is turned off hold “On/Off” button for 5-10 seconds, this will increase batch making time which will make ice cubes thicker and therefore it will take longer for them to melt.
Control panel of Luma IM200SS features 1 button and 3 indicator lights. The “On/Off” button obviously is used for turning the ice maker on or off but also previously mentioned can be also used for making thicker ice cubes that will melt slower – just hold the button for 5-10 seconds while the ice maker is off.
Two of the indicators are warning indicators – one for when ice basket is full and the other for when water reservoir is empty. The third indicator is simply for showing whether ice maker is turned on or off (it lights up when it’s turned on).
Quality & Reliability
Luma IM200SS feels pretty well made. It’s made of BPA-free plastic (but pretty much all ice makers are as well) with stainless steel housing.
However just because it feels well made doesn’t mean it’s reliable. There are concerning amount of complaints from consumers that their Luma IM200SS stopped working or developed technical issues after few weeks or months of use.
Luma IM200SS is a decent ice maker but unfortunately not only it’s a bit overpriced it also might be less reliable than other ice makers.
