KRUPS GX420851 Coffee Burr Grinder Review

KRUPS GX420851 is a coffee grinder with 160 watt motor and stainless steel conical burrs. It has a total of 39 different grind size settings.

Grinding

KRUPS GX420851 is a relatively inexpensive burr grinder so you need to have realistic expectations. With that being said it does grind decently well. Of course as it’s usually the case in this price class this is not something you buy for Espresso as it doesn’t grind fine enough but for brewing methods that doesn’t require fine grind size it works pretty well and you can get a decent flavor out of your coffee. Consistency is decent but gets worse the coarser you go so not really great for French Press either.

There are some issues though. First issue is static cling which common for cheap grinders but unpleasant nonetheless. Some of the grounds coffee will stick to grounds container and to get them out you will have to tap the container which will inevitably cause some of the grounds to fall on countertop. There’s also some open space between the grounds container and chute so some of the grounds coffee might be shot onto the grounds container not into it.

Another issue that only some of the consumers have reported is clogging, usually when using oily beans. This is however not something everyone experiences.

Noise

KRUPS GX420851 is noticeably quieter than grinders typically are. It does make some noise but speaking in relative terms it’s quiet.

Controls

You can grind manually or use Tare function which allows you to decide how many grams should be grinded (up to 100). Grind size setting can be adjusted by rotating bean hopper. There’s also LCD display and 5 buttons: “Tare”, “Menu”, “Start/Stop”, “-” and “+’.

Features

Bean hopper has auto shut-off valve. Bean hopper holds up to 14 ounces (400 grams) of beans.

KRUPS GX420851 comes with a cleaning brush (for burrs).

Conclusions
