KoolerThings Ice Maker (Review)
KoolerThings Ice Maker was released recently but it’s already among most popular ice makers on the market. What’s so special about this unit that made it a hit so fast?
It produces up to 26 pounds of ice cubes per 24 hours (just like pretty much every other ice maker in its price class). Each batch takes around 7 minutes to make and consists of 9 ice cubes.
Ice cube quality is pretty good. Due to soft’ish texture they are chewable and crunchy. They are pretty small though. Despite this ice maker being able to make ice cubes of two different sizes, the difference between them is very slight small ice cubes are about 1″ x 0.8″ and large ones – 1″ x 1″ respectively.
Keep in mind that the ice basket inside the unit isn’t refrigerated so once made ice cubes will slowly melt.
Control panel
KoolerThings ice maker has pretty simple interface that’s easy to use. There are only two buttons: one for turning the unit on/off and the other for choosing ice cube size.
There are also 5 indicator lights: one lights up when the unit is turned on, two are for which ice cube size setting you have chosen and the last two are for warning if ice basket is full or more water needs to be added to resume ice cube production.
It’s very simple to use. Just add water, plug the unit in and press the “power” button to turn it on – it will automatically start producing ice cubes.
Dimensions
KoolerThings ice maker is pretty compact measuring 9 inches wide, 13 inches deep and 12 inches tall.
Miscellaneous
KoolerThings ice maker has transparent lid so you can see how much ice cubes have been already made without opening the lid, which is not only convenient but also prevents you from letting warm air inside the unit which might have negative affect on ice making process impacting ice cube quality.
Reliability
The problem with KoolerThings ice maker is that’s an unreliable ice maker. There are two common issues with it. The first one is that lever that’s supposed to push ice into ice bin gets jammed and stops working. The other very common problem is that water reservoir sensor goes faulty – it thinks that there’s no water in water reservoir when in fact there is and refuses to make ice cubes.
Conclusions
KoolerThings ice maker is a pretty nice unit – at least that’s the first impressions. In reality it’s riddled with reliability issues and should be avoided. If you are looking for a good ice maker machine you might also want to read our Best Portable/Countertop Ice Makers article.

The lever the pushes the ice out keeps getting stuck. U can hear/see the arm trying to push but it fails and the add water and the the ice full lights keep flashing.
Waste of money.. only used 4 times and it stops no matter what i do? says low on water red lights and its full of water.. what a piece of crap.
The lever that pushes the ice out gets stuck no matter what I do and it just keeps blinking saying that it needs more water but it’s full waste of money
Sorry to say the unit is a piece of junk. Was given to me as a gift and have it for only 3 weeks and it won’t make ice anymore.
Says add water water full
I’ve had this ice maker? for about 48 hours. I got 1 basket worth of ice before problems began. First the Add water light came on even tho the water was up to the max line. Second, the Ice full light came on even tho there was NOT ONE ICE BULLET in the basket!
I gat this thing through Amazon. How can I return it for a refund?!
I plugged it in and it has a power light flashing on. When will it make ice and will it turn on. I put the water in the reservoir and it’s not working. How long do you have to wait to work. Can you let me know
I purchase the icemaker in August and it has stopped working
The ice when made doesn’t last long in a drink even after it’s been in the freezer. I’ve tried several things such a warm water, purified water but it never lasts long
