KitchenAid KCO224BM Dual Convection Air Fry Countertop Oven (Review)

KitchenAid KCO224BM is a dual convection countertop oven with air fryer abilities. It’s equipped with 1800 watt power supply and has selectable temperature range from 75°F to 450°F (range does vary depending on selected cooking function).

Cooking with KitchenAid KCO224BM Dual Convection Countertop Oven

KitchenAid KCO224BM has 13 cooking functions: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Broil, Air Fry, Dehydrate, Meat Probe, Convection Bake, Roast, Keep Warm, Reheat, Proof and Frozen.

KitchenAid KCO224BM countertop oven cooks really well in most situations. For example it bakes to pretty much perfection. The temperatures are accurate and evenly distributed. Cakes, cookies, steaks, onion rings and other meals comes out delicious. With the included probe you can cook meat to perfection.

It’s not all perfect though! Some of you will be disappointed with Air Fry function which is essentially just a convection mode and doesn’t make food as crispy as top performing dedicated air fryers. You can’t say it doesn’t work at all but it could work better.

Overall KitchenAid KCO224BM cooks really well in most situations but in some results can be mediocre.

Accessories

KitchenAid KCO224BM comes with air fry basket, temperature probe with magnetic storage case, 9×13-inch baking pan with grill rack, removable metal drip/crumb tray and removable metal rack.

Control panel

KitchenAid KCO224BM has a fairly easy to use digital control panel which is quite similar to most countertop ovens on the market today.

It has high-contrast LCD display, knob for adjustments and 5 buttons: Function, Temperature/Shade, Time/Slice, Start and Cancel. Very basic but that makes it easy to use.

Temperature can be adjusted in 5°F (or 1°C increments depending which temperature scale you have selected). This can be considered to be advantage since many countertop ovens adjust temperature in 10°F increments. With 5°F increments you can select a more accurate temperature and follow recipes precisely.

Cleaning

The interior is made of metal which is easy to clean. This unit also comes with crumb tray so there isn’t a large mess after cooking however because of the drop down door design some of the crumbs can drop into where the door hinge is located.

Other

Glass window can get very hot when you are cooking so you shouldn’t touch it. This issue isn’t exclusive to KitchenAid KCO224BM as countertop ovens are fairly small units and they have to soak in the heat somewhere without letting it dissipate too quickly which would make them a lot more expensive to run and heat up your kitchen.

You have to leave 4-inch (10 cm) clearance on both sides, back and top for proper air circulation.

Verdict

Overall KitchenAid KCO224BM is a pretty good countertop oven that’s much better than less expensive models. As an air fryer it’s mediocre though. For the money the quality and performance is adequate and will satisfy most consumers but for some this might not be the appliance they are looking for.
