Keter Marvel Plus 71-Gallon Outdoor Deck Box Review

Keter Marvel Plus is inexpensive deck box with storage capacity of 71 gallons. Is it reasonable to save money and buy cheaper deck box or is this the case of buy cheap, pay twice?

Quality

Keter Marvel Plus 71-Gallon deck box is made of polypropylene plastic. Body panels are thin and feel fragile so first impressions aren’t great. Once you assemble it it does become more sturdy but it’s still not something you would call durable. Even though it’s a bit flimsy it’s durable enough for the purpose of storing items. The only thing that’s truly concerning are hinges – they are made of plastic too so they might not last.

According to instructions you can fit up to 66 lbs of stuff inside the deck box and since the bottom panel is made of thin plastic that’s quite flexible you shouldn’t exceed that limit. Instructions also say that the lid can hold up to 485 lbs but that just doesn’t seem right, it’s unlikely it could actually support that much weight. You definitely shouldn’t sit on it even if you weigh considerably less than the quoted lid weight capacity.

Another issue is that it’s shipped with no padding and since panels aren’t very sturdy they might potentially be damaged during shipping.

Features

Keter Marvel Plus 71-Gallon deck box has built-in handles and wheels so it’s easy to move. It’s also compatible with padlock so you can lock it however you will have to buy padlock separately. How much security does a padlock provide is a different question though. Since deck box isn’t super sturdy it wouldn’t be too hard to forcibly break in but then again doing so would cause a lot of noise which would alert anyone nearby.

Weatherproofness

Keter Marvel Plus 71-Gallon deck box seems to be watertight as rain water fails to get inside. Body panels are UV-resistant too.

Assembly

Keter Marvel Plus 71-Gallon deck box is very simple to assemble. It requires no tools, you just snap pieces together and whole process doesn’t take longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Conclusions

Is Keter Marvel Plus is a good deck box? It kinda depends on perspective. Generally you could describe it mediocre at best, it has some nice features like built-in wheels but it’s not sturdy. Then again it’s very inexpensive and you won’t a really solid deck box of similar storage capacity for similar price.

At the end of the day it’s up for you to decide what you want. Do you want more expensive but sturdier deck box or something that’s less sturdy will be sufficient enough in order to save some money?
