Kamado Big Joe II Charcoal Grill Review

Kamado Big Joe II is a high end 24-inch charcoal grill with 452 square inches of cooking surface. Being a lot more expensive than your average charcoal grill can it be worth the money?

Kamado Big Joe II Charcoal Grill

Does Kamado Big Joe II charcoal grill actually cook better than cheaper ones? I’m not sure what answer you expect but the answer is yes. Meat has extremely rich flavor, tenderness and juiciness. The smoky flavor is unmatched. You can still have really good and delicious results with far cheaper grills but Kamado just beats them.

With Kamado Big Joe II charcoal grill you can cook in temperatures from 225°F to 750°F. It has lid mounted thermometer and controlling temperature by adjusting air flow is very simple and effective. You can adjust it with stainless steel bottom draft door or aluminum rain-proof tower vent.

Kamado Big Joe II is also very versatile. With half-moon heat deflector you can create different heat zones or transform your Big Joe into a great smoker.

The stainless steel cooking grates also are halved allowing you to lift one side higher than the other so you can cook different foods at the same time (i.e. cooking meat and grilling veggies).

You can cook with two sets of grates at different levels to double cooking space to 904 square inches. Accessory rack can be set in top position for baking. There’s even rotisserie accessory available but you have to buy it separately.

The double-thick wire mesh fiberglass gasket provides a true air-tight seal. You can cook for hours on end without having to replenish the coals.

Quality

The quality of this grill is on another level. Every single part is well engineered, sturdy and of very high quality. The cooking grates are made of stainless steel and firebox is ceramic. Nothing of this shouldn’t come to surprise though as you should expect nothing less at this price.

Other features

We already mentioned a lot of features that Kamado Big Joe II charcoal grill has so we won’t repeat those however there are some additional ones as well.

Kamado Big Joe II charcoal grill has air lift hinge that makes opening lid essentially effortless. You can literally lift it up with a finger without any struggling. It also has two folding side tables.

Conclusions

Kamado Big Joe II charcoal grill is very expensive, there is no question about that, but is it worth the money? If you are ready to spend so much on a grill then absolutely, you really do get what you pay for in this case, however some will find it hard to justify the price tag. There are far cheaper grills that will be good enough for majority of consumers but they will never be Big Joe II.
