Instant Pot Pro 8-Quart 10-in-1 Pressure Cooker

Instant Pot Pro 8-quart model is a recently released pressure cooker from the most popular pressure cooker manufacturer. Is it better than the older models?

Cooking with Instant Pot Pro 8-Quart 10-in-1 Pressure Cooker

Instant Pot Pro 8-quart pressure cooker is a very versatile kitchen appliance that can pressure cook, slow cook, sous vide, sauté pan, cook different types of rice, sterilize, make yogurt, warm food, bake cakes and work as a steamer.

Just like other Instant Pot pressure cookers Pro 8-quart model does a great job of cooking making meals near perfect and rich in flavor.

Fall of the bone ribs, best rice you will ever eat, amazing beef stew and a lot more – this is a kitchen appliance that can do nearly everything. It cooks fast and seems to build pressure faster than older models.

Instant Pot is available in 2 different sizes – 6 and 8 quarts. It’s hard to say which size will meet your needs the best as that depends on many different factors however be aware that the 8 quart pot feels substantially larger than the 6 quart one despite the difference being just 2 quarts.

Control panel

Instant Pot Pro features improved control panel. The main differences are new buttons that allow you to save 5 favorite settings as well more information on display screen. For example display screen now shows cooking progress bar with multiple stages for preheating, cooking and keeping food warm.

8 of the buttons are for smart settings (Pressure Cook, Rice/Grain, Steam, Sauté, Slow Cook, Sous Vide, Yogurt, and Bake), 5 for favorite settings and the rest of the 4 are “Delay Start” (allows to delay cooking from 10 minutes to 24 hours), “Keep Warm” (if turned “on” pressure cooker will automatically keep your food warm after cooking for up to 10 hours), “Cancel” and “Start”. There’s also a control dial for scrolling through smart programs, adjusting time, temperature, pressure level, etc.

You can switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales by pressing and holding dial for 5 seconds during standby mode and once temperature unit flashes you can scroll through temperatures scales with control dial. Once you have selected the one you want to use press “Start” to save the change.

This model also has audible alarms that you can turn off by pressing and holding dial for 5 seconds during standby mode and when the temperature icon flashes press the dial and scroll to sound field. When the sound icon starts to flash turn the dial and select on or off. When you have selected desired sound mode press Start to save the change.

Pressure release

Instant Pot Pro 8-quart pressure cooker has 3 pressure release methods: Natural Release, Quick Release and Timed Natural Release.

With Natural Release you allow the pressure cooker to release pressure on its own. The advantage of this method is that you don’t have to do anything however it can take as long as 40 minutes in some cases to release pressure this way.

With Quick Release you can release all the pressure very fast by moving quick release switch from “Seal” to “Vent” position. If the cover is not put on correctly a hot steam will shoot out of the steam release valve – be careful and never put any body parts in the way of the steam release valve when you are changing quick release switch position! Thankfully steam valve is positioned further from “Seal/Vent” switch than on older models so this shouldn’t be a problem. Quick Release shouldn’t be used with high-starch foods, foods that expend or foods that contain a lot of liquid.

Timed Natural Release is sort of a mix between Natural Release and Quick Release. You allow some of the pressure to be released naturally and then rapidly release the rest of it. For this reason Instant Pot Pro 8-quart pressure cooker has Vent reminder feature that will remind you to quick release after 5 or 10 minutes of natural release.

Steam has been released only when “Seal” float valve drops down into the lid. If it’s up it means all of the pressure hasn’t been released yet and you definitely shouldn’t try to open the lid.

Verdict

Instant Pot Pro 8-quart pressure cooker is one of the best pressure cookers you can buy for the money. Previous Instant Pot pressure cookers were great kitchen appliances and the Pro model is even better.
