Hiland 48,000 BTU Patio Heater Review [HLDS01-SSHGT]

Hiland HLDS01-SSHGT patio heater has a heat output of 48,000 BTU. It’s made of stainless steel and features two-tone hammered bronze powder coating which makes it feel high quality and looks great. Shield is 33 inches in diameter and made of aluminum. Hiland HLDS01-SSHGT weighs 55 lbs and is 87 inches tall.

Heat

Heat output is pretty good and will keep warm everyone up to 10 feet radius (in colder climate the heated radius might be smaller). It uses 20 lb. propane tank which is not included. We have heard about people cutting off 4-5 inches off the steel post to bring heating element lower in order to increase nearby warmth however that’s something we cannot recommend to do since such interference with product design can cause unknown hazards.

Start up

Hiland HLDS01-SSHGT can be a bit irritating to light up until you get used to the process (so be sure to read instructions first). You have to turn knob to “Pilot” position and hold it there for about a minute before firing up the patio heater.

Features

It comes with a weight bladder which you can fill with sand or water for increased stability. It also has a table for your drinks that’s adjustable in height and wheels for easier transportation.

Packaging

Hiland HLDS01-SSHGT 48,000 BTU patio heater isn’t packed very well and due to this it’s not uncommon for dents to develop during shipping. Few consumers have complained about their unit not working properly in one way or another which might be caused by damage during shipping due to poor packaging.

Assembly

Assembly instructions could be written better but it’s still rather simple to assemble – most will spend 25-50 minutes to put it together.

Conclusions

Overall Hiland HLDS01-SSHGT is a decent patio heater for the price. It’s not a high-end unit but neither it’s priced as one – it has some minor flaws but it does a decent job of keeping you warm. However one thing is concerning – the poor packaging which might cause dents or other damage during shipping.
