Hamilton Beach 80385 Electric Burr Coffee Grinder Review

Hamilton Beach 80385 is electric burr coffee grinder with 18 different grind size settings and 200 Watt motor.

Grinding

Hamilton Beach 80385 is one of the cheapest burr grinders you can buy and frankly cheap burr grinders aren’t that great. They might be better than using a blade grinder, but the difference of coffee flavor is significant when compared to grinder 2-3 times more expensive.

Just like other cheap burr grinders Hamilton Beach 80385 uses what are known to be “false” or “fake” burrs. Technically they are real burrs however instead of being made of metal they are made of plastic or other similar material which makes burrs to be a lot less sharp and accurate.

For espresso Hamilton Beach 80385 actually grinds better than other similarly priced burr grinders, however even then it doesn’t grind quite fine enough. Flavor lacks clarity and coffee has a slight muddy texture.

For brewing methods that require medium size grinds is also disappointing. The consistency is not good and overall flavor of coffee is worse than you get with other similarly priced models.

Noise

Hamilton Beach 80385 is noisy but that’s the case for most burr grinders.

Static cling

Just like all cheap burr grinders Hamilton Beach 80385 also suffers from static cling. Once you finish grinding the grounds coffee will stick to the walls of grounds bin and will be difficult to get out. You will have to tap the grounds container which usually makes a mess because some of the grounds will fall on countertop.

Other

Upper burr can be removed for cleaning. Hamilton Beach 80385 comes with cleaning brush for this very reason. Some consumers had issues with clogging so you might have to do the cleaning part quite often.

Conclusions
