Greenworks GST80320 PRO 16-Inch 80V String Trimmer – Review

With market being filled with 20V and 40V string trimmers and not so many 80V ones does Greenworks GST80320 PRO 16-Inch 80V cordless string trimmer lives up to the hype?

Performance

Greenworks GST80320 uses 0.080” line and has cutting path of 16 inches. It has two speed modes: low (5,000 RPM) and high (5,500 RPM). Actual RPM difference between the speed modes is quite small so you would expect that there is not much of a difference between them and you would be right. You can feel that “high” is a bit more powerful but the difference is thin.

Greenworks GST80320 PRO is pretty powerful and actually comparable to many gas powered units. It will handle pretty much anything you expect to use a string trimmer on: overgrowths, thick grass, thick weeds, small shrubs etc.

One annoying thing is that if you release the trigger and then proceed to press it again it takes a few seconds to spin up (like ~3 seconds). Might be not that important to most but some might find it to be annoying.

Greenworks GST80320 can be turned into edger, it works pretty well as one with only issue being is that a lot of debris get thrown onto you.

Ergonomics

With 2.0 Ah battery this string trimmer weighs 13.8 lbs – far more than most cordless string trimmers and making it as heavy as gas powered ones. So one of the biggest advantages of cordless string trimmers – lightweightness – doesn’t apply in this case.

Straight shaft is made of aluminum and motor it mounted top. Overall balance is not terrible but isn’t great.

Overall Greenworks GST80320 is far from being the most comfortable string trimmer to use with its relatively heavy weight and mediocre balance. It’s not terribly uncomfortable but it’s

Features

Greenworks GST80320 string trimmer has bump feed head which doesn’t seem to be well built and tends to wear out rather quickly and can work finicky at times. If you purchase this model you might end up wanting to replace bump feed head with different model.

Noise

Greenworks GST80320 PRO 16-Inch 80V string trimmer is relatively quiet. It makes some noise but it’s nowhere as loud as gas powered ones.

Conclusions

Not a bad string trimmer but it’s not among our favorites. It’s powerful and cuts well however it could be designed better to get rid of some of the flaws that many will find burdensome.

Despite that majority of consumer feedback is positive and many seem to like it despite some of its shortcomings – but when we inspect consumer feedback on our favorite models we can see that this one isn’t as loved as them, therefore not only from our perspective but also from consumer’s this model cannot be considered to be one of the best ones.
