Greenworks 21362 14-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer Review

Greenworks 21362 14-Inch 40V cordless string trimmer is among most popular battery powered weed eaters on market nowadays. Consumer feedback is also outstanding but is it really as powerful as gas powered string trimmers while retaining advantages of battery powered ones?

Performance

Greenworks 21362 battery powered string trimmer has brushless motor which improves efficiency. It has cutting swath of 14 inches and uses 0.080” dual line.

Greenworks 21362 14-Inch 40V string trimmer has two power modes: normal and high. On normal it can cut most of the stuff your average consumer will face however high power mode is comparable to gas powered weed eaters of similar pricing.

Overall it’s plenty powerful and cuts thick weeds and overgrowths very well.

Its only real weakness performance wise is line it comes with (Greenworks 0.080″ line) – it wears quickly and breaks easily but most importantly it doesn’t cut as well as other lines. It does cut pretty well with original line but does it a lot better with quality line.

Features

Greenworks 21362 14-Inch 40V cordless string trimmer has bump feed head which works really well. It feeds line quickly and easily and doesn’t jam. Bump feed systems often doesn’t work flawlessly but this one does!

Greenworks 21362 is very attachment friendly. It’s compatible with many attachments from other companies (like Ryobi, TrimmerPlucs, Yardworks and others) and attachments designed for gas weed wackers. They are easy to swap out and you can turn your Greenworks 21362 into polesaw, hedge trimmer, edger, brush cutter etc.

Battery

Greenworks 21362 string trimmer is usually sold with either 2Ah or 4Ah batteries.

On full charge 4Ah battery lasts about 60 (maybe a bit more) minutes on normal mode or around 30 minutes on high speed mode while cutting really thick overgrowths (might last more on less demanding stuff).

I can’t comment how long 2Ah batteries last but common sense says they are only good for small and quick jobs.

Weight

Greenworks 21362 weed wacker weighs 15 pounds – so it’s heavy, in fact, it’s significantly heavier than most cordless string trimmers. Even more – it’s just as heavy if not heavier than many gas powered weed wackers.

One of the advantages of electric string trimmers is that they usually are lighter than their gas powered counterparts, but not in this case.

If you need lightweight string trimmer then this one probably isn’t for you but most will be able to handle it just fine (although it will cause more muscle fatigue than lighter units).

Noise

You can’t exactly call Greenworks 21362 string trimmer quiet but it’s certainly a lot quieter than gas powered trimmers. You can actually have a conversation with someone while using it.

Conclusions

Greenworks 21362 is an impressive electric string trimmer – it’s powerful and cuts very well. Most common drawback of electric string trimmers is that they rarely cut as well as their gas powered counterparts but that’s not the case with Greenworks 21362.

It does have one significant flaw though – it’s rather heavy and weighs just as much as gas string trimmers. However it retains all of the other advantages over them – ease of use and maintenance, less noise, less vibrations and no toxic fumes to breath.

Overall it’s one of the best cordless string trimmers on the market today. If you can live with its weight then it’s a great choice.
