Greenworks 20262 12-Inch 40V Cordless Chainsaw Review

Greenworks 20262 is the most popular electric chainsaw from the manufacturer. It features 12-inch steel Oregon chain and bar. Chain pitch is 3/8” (9.5 mm) and chain gauge 0.05” (1.27 mm). It’s 40V system with brushed motor which is a not a good thing since brushless motors are more efficient and powerful.

So how good really is the best selling electric chainsaw Greenworks makes?

Cutting performance

It cuts slower than gas chainsaw. You don’t notice that much of a difference when cutting tree branches or limbs, for that Greenworks 20262 40V chainsaw is great, but when it comes to cutting trees themselves the difference in cutting speed is pretty significant, even tremendous when it comes to thicker ones.

Cutting small trees in diameter of up to 4-6 inches isn’t completely terrible with Greenworks 20262 but it’s going to take slightly longer than with a gas chainsaw. Forget cutting anything bigger than that though, it will take significantly more time and effort making in unpractical compared to gas chainsaw.

Greenworks 20262 is decent for light duty jobs but it doesn’t cut as well as DEWALT DCCS620P1 20V electric chainsaw.

Features

Greenworks 20262 features tool-less chain tensioning – juts loosen the lock bolt, adjust tensioner and retighten lock bolt – quick and easy. It could hold tension better though as you have to retighten it quite regularly.

It also has automatic oiler that applies oil to bar and chain. It works pretty well. Oil tank is translucent so you can see oil level.

Of course it also has chain brake.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics are pretty good. Chainsaw is light (6 lbs), comfortable and easy to use.

Battery

Greenworks 20262 12-Inch 40V cordless chainsaw comes with 2.0 Ah battery but it’s compatible with some others too (including 4.0 Ah). Although battery life depends on multiple factors you can generally except 2.0 Ah to last around an hour of use (Not 1 hour of cutting nonstop but 1 hour of normal usage).

Electric chainsaw advantages

Although electric chainsaws are generally less powerful than their gas counterparts they do have some advantages over them including less noise, less maintenance (no mixing oil with gas), less vibrations, less weight, no fumes to breath or struggling to fire it up.

Conclusions

Greenworks 20262 can handle light duty jobs pretty well but cutting is significantly slower when it comes to medium and heavy duty jobs than with gas chainsaws. It’s also not as powerful as some other electric chainsaws (like DEWALT DCCS620P1).
