GIVENEU GUCG-2003 Electric Conical Burr Coffee Grinder Review

GIVENEU GUCG-2003 is electric conical burr coffee grinder with 31 grind settings. It’s a new model with beautiful, sleek design but can it grind well?

Grinding

With 31 grind settings you have a good variety of options from coarse to fine. Unlike many other burr grinders at this price point GIVENEU GUCG-2003 can actually grind fine enough for espresso. Grind consistency is also good for the money. Not as good as with more expensive models, but definitely among the best at this price.

There are two issues though. First, there is some retention and to get out all of the grounds coffee you have to tap the grinder, second (something that can be a deal-breaker) GIVENEU GUCG-2003 tends to clog up, especially when using finer grind settings.

Noise

All burr grinders are loud, some less, some more. GIVENEU GUCG-2003 is somewhere in the middle, maybe a bit on the louder side. If this will be an issue for you then looking for a quieter model might be a wise choice.

Bean hopper and grounds container

Bean hopper can hold up to 10 ounces of coffee beans whereas grounds container up to 3.5 oz of grounds coffee. Grounds container is made of stainless steel which significantly reduces static cling and protects ground coffee from UV rays.

There is one criticism though – nothing holds grounds container in place so it’s not very stable. Even though there are rubber feet on the bottom of it that still doesn’t prevent it from moving during grinding process.

Controls

Control panel of GIVENEU GUCG-2003 burr grinder features LCD display and 3 touch sensitive buttons:

• ”Cup selection” button: Press to select amount of beans to be grinded (from 1 to 10 cups).
• ”Timer” button: Press to select grinding time (1 to 25 seconds).
• ”Start/Stop” button: Press this button to start grinding after you have selected either “amount of cups” to be grinded or “seconds” to grind. You can also press this button during grinding to stop the process.

Buttons are responsive and easy to use. Grind coarseness can’t be adjusted by twisting bean hopper.

Reliability

The most concerning issue with GIVENEU GUCG-2003 is that consumers have reported their units failing after few weeks/months of use far more often than usual (compared to other burr grinders). This indicates that long-term reliability might be an issue and failure rate for this model might be higher than that of competitors.

Size and weight

GIVENEU GUCG-2003 weighs 3.53 pounds and is rather compact measuring 4.65 inches wide by 7.28 inches deep by 12.4 inches high.

Conclusions

There are a lot of good things about GIVENEU GUCG-2003 (i.e. grinding performance, no static, stainless-steel ground container, etc.) but then there are also the ugly things (i.e. clogging, retention and possible reliability issues, etc.). It’s not inherently better or worse that competitors, but it’s different.
