Frigidaire EFIC103 Ice Maker Machine (Review)

Frigidaire EFIC103 is a portable ice maker machine that is capable of producing up to 26 pounds of ice cubes per 24 hours. It can make ice cubes in 3 different sizes: large, medium and small, however difference between them is not that big.

Frigidaire EFIC103 makes 9 ice cubes per batch. According to manufacturer Frigidaire EFIC103 makes a batch in as little as 6 minutes – in reality it takes 8-10 minutes, more if you have chosen large ice cube setting. First batch will likely take even longer than that.

Ice cube quality is decent if you use chill water. Using warm/hot water will produce significantly smaller ice cubes that will melt fast as ice basket isn’t refrigerated.

Interface

Functionally Frigidaire EFIC103 has the same interface as most ice makers just with different design.

It has 2 buttons: For turning the unit one and selecting ice cube size. Like most units it also has 5 indicator lights: 2 of them are for warning you if you need to add more water (water reservoir empty) or ice basket if full (you need to remove ice cubes from it). The rest are for indicating which ice cube size setting you have selected.

Features

Frigidaire EFIC103 ice maker has sensors to detect when ice basket is full or water reservoir is empty – however it’s not uncommon for them to fail to work.

It has drain plug and ice bucket can hold 2.2 pounds of ice cubes – which is more than most other countertop ice machines.

Reliability

If you analyze consumer reports you will find that it seems like it’s not uncommon for this unit to last less than 12 months – and that’s concerning. There’s plenty of feedback from consumers that their unit lasted over 12, 18 and more months but despite that there is enough bad feedback for you to be concerned about longevity of this ice maker.

But it has warranty so it shouldn’t be a big issue, right? Well that’s another aspect that many consumers have complained about. First, many complained that customer service is terrible – apparently the amount of effort it takes to contact the manufacturer to issue a warranty claim is outrageous. Second, even when they managed to issue warranty claimed many complained about having to pay for shipping which often cost almost as much as the unit itself depending on where you live – which kinda defeats the purpose of warranty. With that being said there is feedback from others that they were shipped a new unit at no expense so perhaps each case varies.

Conclusions

When it works Frigidaire EFIC103 is a good ice maker. Unfortunately many different issues are a common thing with it and whether you will like it or not is a roll of the dice as in how good of a unit you will get.
