Eureka Mignon Specialita Espresso Grinder Review

Eureka Mignon Specialita is espresso burr coffee grinder with 310 watt motor that grinds coffee with hardened steel flat burrs at 1350 rpm.

Grinding

Eureka Mignon Specialita excels at grinding for espresso but it can really do anything between French Press and Espresso. Of course the coarser you grind the less consistency there’s but even at coarsest settings grinds are relatively uniform considering pricing of this grinder.

When it comes to espresso Eureka Mignon Specialita is outstanding. It can grind incredibly fine and consistency is magnificent too. It also grinds noticeably faster than other grinders which can be attributed to larger burrs.

There’s essentially zero retention. When you grind coffee some grounds can jump back into bean hopper however this can be easily prevented by shutting bean hopper valve so you don’t have to worry about old, stale grounds which ruin the flavor of your coffee.

Eureka Mignon Specialita burr grinder is also equipped with clump crushers. Because of this there is very little amount of clumps, sometimes none at all.

Quality

Eureka Mignon Specialita feels well made. It’s heavy (in a good way) and feels sturdy. Only part that feels cheap is plastic bean hopper.

Noise

Burr grinders are almost always very loud but that’s not the case with Eureka Mignon Specialita. It does output some noise but it’s not loud by any means.

Bean hopper and grounds container capacity

Bean hopper holds 300 grams (10 oz) of beans whereas grounds container can accommodate up to 160 grams (5.6 oz) of grounds coffee.

Controls

Eureka Mignon Specialita is equipped with display screen, stepless grind adjustment dial and 4 touch sensitive buttons:

  • “-” button: Press to decrease grind time.
  • “+” button: Press to increase grind time.
  • “Single dose” button: Press to grind for single dose.
  • “Double dose” button: Press to grind for double dose.

Overall grinder is easy to use. Only issue here is the stepless infinite grind adjustment dial which makes it hard to go back and forth between the settings. If you have found the perfect grinding setting for espresso but decide to grind for French Press and select coarser setting it will be difficult to tune the dial back to exact previous espresso setting since it has infinite steps.

Eureka Mignon Specialita can grind manually too if you desire so. Grinding action is triggered by a button which is touched by portafilter when you insert it into portafilter holder fork. For example if you are grinding directly into portafilter you just have to move it away to stop grinding.

You can also do continuous dispensing – hold “Single dose” and “Double dose” simultaneously and Eureka Mignon Specialita will grind for up to 60 seconds.

Conclusions

Eureka Mignon Specialita is exceptional grinder for espresso. It’s decent for French Press and Pour over too but if you don’t drink espresso then you might get better value for money from a different grinder.
