Eureka Atom Pro Espresso Grinder Review
Eureka Atom Pro is the most advanced espresso burr grinder within Eureka Atom model lineup. It’s equipped with 920 watt motor and 75mm hardened steel flat burrs.
Performance
Eureka Atom Pro manages to perform even better than other already excellent Eureka Atom grinders. When you grind for espresso grind consistency is even better. Yes, there’s a little bit of retention but not much. With 75 millimeter burrs the grind speed is very fast as well.
Honestly it’s expected for Eureka Atom Pro to be amazing at grinding for espresso as Eureka products generally are really good, however even with high expectations you might still be taken by surprise how its superb performance leads to some of the best tasting espresso’s you will ever have.
What’s perhaps the most surprising is its ability to grind coarser than just for espresso. It works pretty well for brewing methods that require medium grind size which is something that grinders designed for espresso can’t do well. The consistency does go down as you go coarser and Eureka Atom Pro won’t be as good as a grinder dedicated specifically for something like pour over but it still does an impressively good job.
Eureka Atom Pro vs Eureka Atom Specialty 75
Both the Eureka Pro and Atom 75 have same motor and same size burrs which might beg the question – what’s the difference between the two?
Even though burrs are of the same size they are not the same. Atom Pro’s burrs grind with better consistency which can be noticed at fine grind size but is a lot more pronounced the coarser you go. Eureka Atom Pro also has built-in cooling fan which reduces heat transfer which can be a problem with Atom 75 if you do back-to-back shots. It’s very clear that Eureka Pro was designed for commercial use even though it works great as a high-end espresso grinder for home use too.
Eureka Atom Pro isn’t better in every way though, it’s a bit more difficult to use than Atom 75 and it doesn’t have time based grinding mode.
For use in commercial setting (like a coffee shop) Eureka Atom Pro is the clear winner. When it comes to home use things aren’t that simple. Atom 75 is simpler to use and has time based grinding so you don’t have to weigh out beans every time, but it’s not as good for single shots and grind output is not as consistent albeit it’s still really good and the difference between the two isn’t large but you will still likely notice the subtle difference in flavor. You also won’t use Atom 75 for brewing methods that require coarser size grounds like filter coffee for which Atom Pro works pretty well (but isn’t as good as grinders specifically designed for this task).
Controls
Eureka Atom Pro has some of the most basic controls you will ever see on a burr grinder. It has stepless grind size adjustment knob and two switches: “On/Off” and “Start/Stop”. That’s it. There are no time based or weight based grinding options, only manual. There also isn’t a display screen that other Atom grinders have.
Conclusions
Eureka Atom Pro is one of the best espresso grinders you can purchase. With its exceptional consistency you will be able to pull espresso shots with some of the richest flavor. It really has only two flaws – it’s quite expensive and isn’t the most convenient grinder to use at home.
