EGO Power+ SNT2102 Review – 21-Inch 56-Volt Cordless Snow Blower

EGO Power+ SNT2102 is a 56-Volt battery powered snow blower with brushless motor. It has clearing width of 21 inches and intake height of 13. Being on expensive side of electric snow blowers expectations are high but can it live up to them?

Performance

EGO Power+ SNT2102 is pretty powerful for a battery powered snow blowers but it’s not as powerful as equivalently priced gas snow blowers.

It handles 8-12 inches of light snow well. It can handle more too but it might start to struggle making you to go slower at it or not clear snow at full width.

It does a good job of clearing wet or slushy snow too. Not as great as similarly prices gas snow blowers but it clears 6 inches of wet snow well – something most electric snow blowers can’t do.

EGO Power+ SNT2102 has variable-speed auger but you will always use full power as it throws snow 5-15 feet (depending on conditions) on it.

Ease of use

EGO Power+ SNT2102 is not self-propelled but weighs just 53.35 pounds or 24.2 kg (without batteries) making it easy to push and maneuver.

Features

Chute rotates 180 degrees and is adjustable remotely. Snow blower has built-in headlights that can be turned with a push of a button – they are helpful in darkness.

Batteries

EGO Power+ SNT2102 comes with two 5.0Ah ARC lithium batteries. It runs on two batteries simoltenously and battery life depends on conditions. If you clear couple inches of light snow you might get the advertised 40 minutes from fully charged batteries, but in deeper or wet snow the battery life will decrease a lot. In some cases you might need extra battery pack to clear your driveway.

EGO Power+ SNT2102 is equipped with indicators that indicates charge level and status of batteries:

• Green: Snow blower is working properly and batteries have more than 15% charge left.
• RED: Battery charge is low.
• Blinking red: battery pack is nearly depleted.
• Orange: Snow blower or batteries have overheated, give them some time to cool down.
• Blinking orange: Snow blower is overloaded. Check if there’s snow stuck under the deck or in auger – if there is clean it, if there isn’t then push snow blower slower or decrease width you clean snow with.

It comes with rapid charger which fully charges batteries in about 30 minutes.

EGO states that when not used batteries should be stores in area where air temperature will not go below -4°F (-20°C). According to manufacturer ait temperature for optimal charging is between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C).

EGO Power+ SNT2102 vs Snow Joe iON100V-21SB

The closest competitor to EGO Power+ SNT2102 is Snow Joe iON100V-21SB – they are both battery powered and similarly priced but Snow Joe usually retails at a higher price. Snow Joe snow blower is a 100 Volt system whereas the EGO is 56 Volt. Despite that they seem to be quite similar in terms of performance (Snow Joe seemingly performing slightly better).

One thing worth mentioning is that Snow Joe iON100V-21SB has received much better feedback from consumers. One of the main reasons is that according to consumer reports Snow Joe seems to be more reliable but we can’t claim for sure that’s the case.

Conclusions

Overall EGO Power+ SNT2102 is a good battery powered snow blower. It’s not as powerful  as equivalently priced gas snow blowers but is powerful enough to tackle light to medium duty jobs just fine while being emission and maintenance free, relatively quiet, light and easy to maneuver.
