EdgeStar IB250SS 25 Lbs/24h Built-In Ice Maker Review

EdgeStar IB250SS ice maker not only makes ice but unlike most ice makers also works as a freezer and keeps your ice cubes frozen. It can be used as a freestanding unit or built-in under counter due to its size. It’s quite expensive though so one question arises above all – is it worth the money?

Ice production

EdgeStar IB250SS is capable of producing up to 25 lbs of crescent shaped ice cubes in 24 hours or about 1 pound every hour, however it might produce ice at slightly slower pace if ambient (air) or water temperatures are high.

The quality of ice cubes is good. They are properly shaped and tasteless. If you install water filter ice cubes will come out clear (in most cases), if you don’t they might be cloudy. Ice cubes are approximately 0.5″ x 0.75″ x 2.5″ big.

Unlike most ice machines EdgeStar IB250SS also works as a freezer and keeps your ice cubes frozen – this is partially the reason why it’s a bit on expensive side. Well it keeps the ice cubes frozen so it works so no complaints here.

One flaw or deficiency it that this ice machines is not frost free and you will likely have to manually defrost it somewhat frequently. Make sure door is closed with a proper seal at all times as otherwise frost build up will be accelerated.

Quality

Unit feels well made and sturdy. It looks pretty good too but for the price stainless steel finish could be better. It doesn’t look bad but it could certainly look more expensive or fancy considering you are paying quite a bit of money for it.

Control panel

EdgeStar IB250SS doesn’t have fancy LCD displays or array of buttons, instead it’s as basic as it gets – there is only 1 toggle switch and that’s for turning the ice maker on/off.

Installation

EdgeStar IB250SS can be left freestanding or installed as a built-in appliance i.e. under counter. It doesn’t come with water filter but you can install one to your liking. It doesn’t require drain line. Door is reversible and can be mounted left hinge or right hinge opening direction.

Noise

EdgeStar IB250SS is surprisingly quiet, it only makes noticeable noise when it drop ice or draws water and that just lasts few seconds.

Conclusions

EdgeStar IB250SS is a good ice maker. It does has some flaws but it makes good ice at respectable rate and keeps it frozen.
