EdgeStar CWF440SZ 20″ Wide 44-Bottle Wine Cooler Review

EdgeStar CWF440SZ is 20-inch wide single zone compressor wine cooler that holds up to 44 wine bottles. It uses 1.06 oz R600a refrigerant and has adjustable temperature from 40°F to 56°F.

You will only be able to fit 44 bottles inside if your wine collection consists exclusively of standard sized 750mL Bordeaux (11.75″ x 2.75″) bottles. If you have other type bottles like Pinot Noir or sparkling champagne you won’t be able to fit as many. Some bottles (like Riesling which typically are 13″ long) won’t fit at all.

Temperature control isn’t 100% accurate, it does fluctuate but usually only by couple degrees. In some cases temperature fluctuations can be larger, so if you have expensive wine collection perhaps you should look for something that’s more consistent.

It doesn’t have front venting so can only be used as a freestanding appliance with at least 5 inches of spare room behind the wine cooler and 5.3125 inches (59 mm) from both sides. It’s also a bit noisy and fan run very often, perhaps due to lack of front ventilation.

Controls

EdgeStar CWF440SZ has LCD display that shows set temperature. If you want to actually know temperature inside the chamber you need interior/refrigerator thermometer.

There’s total of 4 buttons. “Up” and “Down” buttons adjust temperature in 1 degree increments. “Light” button turns on/off interior light and “Power” button turns wine cooler on or off when held for ~3 seconds.

It also has 3 indicator lights. “Run” indicator light illuminates when EdgeStar CWF440SZ is in cooling phase. “°F” or “°C” indicator illuminates when corresponding temperature scale is selected. To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature scales hold “Up” and “Down” buttons for about 3 seconds.
