Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp 1.7-Liter Electric Cordless Kettle Review (CPK-17P1)

Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp (also known as Cuisinart CPK-17P1) is electric kettle with temperature control. It can hold up to 1.7 liters of water and has 1500 watt power supply.

Performance

Most electric kettles have same capacity and power supply so the heat up times are usually very similar and Cuisinart CPK-17 is not an exception. It’s certainly faster than using stovetop or microwave however it’s about as fast as most other kettles.

Water tastes and smells pure. Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp is BPA free however there are plastic parts in the spout.

Cuisinart CPK-17 has water-level indicator window with 6 volume markings: 0.5 liters (min), 0.75 liters, 1.0 liter, 1.25 liters, 1.5 liters and 1.7 liters (max). It’s on the same side as the handle which does obstruct the view a bit making it harder to read volume than on electric kettles with glass pot that have markings on both sides.

Temperature control

Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp has 6 different temperature settings: 160 °F, 175 °F, 185 °F, 190 °F, 200 °F and boil (212 °F). They are fairly accurate but can be off by couple degrees (this is normal).

Various temperature settings can be useful for various things. For example different types of tea and coffee require different brewing temperatures for best flavor extraction.

Not everyone needs this feature though. If you simply need an electric kettle that brings water to boil and don’t think you will ever use any of the temperature settings then you can find something less expensive that works just about as well.

Keep Warm

Cuisinart CPK-17 has “Keep Warm” feature that will keep water in the kettle at selected temperature for 30 minutes.

Insulation

Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp doesn’t have double wall design. Because of this the exterior of the kettle does become too hot to touch (however the handle remains safe) and water will cool down a bit faster while inside the pot (without ‘’Keep Warm’’ mode turned on).

Most electric kettles don’t have double wall design however there are some that do at this price point.

Other Features

Cuisinart CPK-17P1 PerfecTemp electric cordless tea kettles has 360-degree swivel power base that allows cord free pouring, stay-cool nonslip handle, 1-touch controls and auto-shutoff.

When electric kettle is warming up water control panel and water-level indicator window are illuminated with blue light.

Cleaning

The opening is big enough for most people not to have an issue fitting their hand inside to clean the kettle. It could be a big better though as persons with bigger hands still might find it to be a tight fit.

Alternatives

If you are looking for electric kettle with different temperature settings you might also be interested in other models too. Here are some that aren’t inherently better or worse than Cuisinart CPK-17 but they are different and might suit your wants/needs better:

• Oxo Brew 8716900 (allows you to adjust temperature in 1 degree increments from 170°F to 212°F)
• Fellow Corvo EKG (smaller capacity and slightly less powerful heating element but very elegant design and surprisingly wide temperature range from 135°F to 212°F)
• Cosori CS108-NK (only 0.8 liter capacity and slightly less powerful heating element but has gooseneck type spout and can be controlled with phone through VeSync app).

Verdict

Despite some of the minor shortcomings Cuisinart CPK-17 (or Cuisinart CPK-17P1) is overall a really good electric kettle (better than most for sure). There are some alternatives that you might like better but it’s up to you decide which model will suit your needs the best.
