CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 V60 Weed Wacker/String Trimmer (Review)

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 V60 is the most powerful cordless electric string trimmer the company offers therefore expectations are high. But can it live up to them?

Performance

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 V60 has a brushless motor and cutting swath of 15 inches. It comes with 0.080 string but it’s mediocre, there are better alternatives on the market that will improve cutting abilities. Head will also fit 0.095 string – it will improve performance as this string trimmer has plenty power for it.

Cutting performance is very impressive – power wise CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 comparable to many gas powered units and even outperforms some. It can handle nearly anything you throw at it. It’s among Top 5 most powerful electric string trimmers on market today.

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 has two speed modes: low (0 – 5,200 RPM) and high (0 – 6,200 RPM). Although the difference is only 1,000 RPM between them the high mode is significantly more powerful than low. With that being said low speed mode is more than powerful enough for most stuff you might come across so it’s the one you will usually use to save battery life.

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 V60 has a brushless motor, dual string head and cutting swath of 15 inches. It comes with 0.080 prewounded line and although it cuts well with it the factory line is mediocre – there are better alternatives on market available that will improve performance especially since the head is also compatible with 0.095” line.

Battery

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 comes with 2.5Ah battery. It typically lasts 30-45 minutes on full charge and take less than 1 hour to fully charge from being completely depleted.

Quality

Although CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 V60 string trimmer doesn’t feel exactly fragile for the price it could feel sturdier.

Noise

Unit is relatively quiet – it does make some noise but it’s nowhere near as loud as gas powered units.

Ergonomics

Whereas most string trimmer are comfortable to use for short people and less comfortable for taller people with CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 it’s other way round. If you are under ~5’6’’ it might feel badly balanced for you, however with adjustable pole length if you are over 6” you will still find this weed wacker to be well balanced and comfortable to use and well. Handle is adjustable in height as well.

With a battery attached to it CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 weed wacker weighs 10.2 lbs – lighter than most gas weed wackers yet about twice as heavy than the very lightest battery powered ones. For a cordless string trimmer it’s a bit on heavier side however all of the top performing ones weigh similarly to this unit.

Guard is too small so it doesn’t always do a good job of protecting you but it’s not so bad to be a deal-breaker.

Features

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 uses bumb feed system which actually works pretty well unlike many other string trimmers. It has quick spool head so changing string is quick and simple.

CRAFTSMAN CMCST960E1 V60 is one of the best cordless electric string trimmers on the market today. It’s not perfect but its performance is impressive!
