Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 Portable TRU-Infrared Liquid Propane Gas Grill Review

Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 is a portable gas grill with stainless steel grates and 200 square inches of cooking surface.

Cooking with Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 21401734 Portable TRU-Infrared Liquid Propane Gas Grill

Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 heats up fast and can achieve pretty impressive temperatures for a portable unit – over 600°F in under 10 minutes. It holds that heat well and sears meat exceptionally well, especially for a portable grill.

The grate has V-channels with little slits in the bottom that catch the juice/grease. Not only it prevents them dripping on heating element but also allows them to evaporate which improves flavor. It does smoke quite a lot because of these juices evaporating but that’s a good thing if anything!

Char-Broil also claims that this evaporation of juices make meat itself juicier too. It’s hard to say whether that’s the case (and how much it increases the juiciness if it works) but the meat does come out very juicy indeed.

Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 is quite efficient too – runs for about two and a half hours on a single pound tank. You can also connect a 20 pound one with hook extension hose.

Before First Use

Before you cook something on Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 you should do a burn-in procedure to eliminate any residue left from manufacturing process. You can definitely notice a funny smell (some describe it as plastic like) initially during the burn-in procedure so this is not something you should avoid doing.

After than don’t forget to season the grill and you will have delicious results for sure!

Other Features

Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 features cast-aluminum firebox and lid, lid mounted temperature gauge, large drip shield (which usually stays fairly clean), carry handles and stainless steel latches for secure transportation as well push button ignition.

Quality

The grate is stainless steel but seems to be rather low grade. Hard to predict how it will hold on with regular use but the grill itself feels sturdy.

Possible Issues

A lot of consumers have reported that their Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 runs too hot even on lowest flow setting. Some had the opposite problem – it wouldn’t go above 450 degrees after few uses.

The culprit for these problems is original regulator that’s seemingly badly designed. You can fix these issues by buying and installing aftermarket gas grill control valve/regulator. It’s not a given that you will experience them but they are prevalent enough that you should be ready for it.

Another thing to mention is that there’s quite a big gap between the grill and drip tray. If wind blows it might affect the flame. The handle can soak come of the heat too so you might need to open the lid with a towel or heat resistant gloves.

Verdict

Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 is arguably the best portable grill for the money – that’s if you are ready to replace the control valve with aftermarket one if you experience any issues with original one. There are some less significant flaws like handle soaking heat or grate not being the best quality too but overall Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 performs exceptionally well.
