Camp Chef FTG600 Flat Top Grill Review

Camp Chef FTG600 is a flat top grill equipped with 604 square inch cast iron griddle and four 12,000 BTU/hr. stainless steel burners. Unlike most griddle grills Camp Chef FTG600 is also equipped with grill grates underneath the griddle – just take out the griddle and you can do some traditional grilling too!

Cooking with Camp Chef 600 Flat Top Grill

Camp Chef FTG600 heats up very fast, gets hot and cooks evenly across all burners. It cooks exceptionally well and with griddle surface you can cook a wide variety of foods.

Is the food actually better than when cooked on other grills? It depends on the grill you compare it to however the general answer is yes. Large majority of flat top grills just don’t cook as well and aren’t as consistent as Camp Chef FTG600 is (but that doesn’t mean you can’t have delicious results with them too).

Thanks to its large cooking area and ability to cook fast you won’t have any issues supplying the demand during larger gatherings.

The grid surface has non-stick seasoning made from plant oils from the factory but you still have to season it with oil.

The grid surface has plant oil non-stick seasoning from the factory but it’s not really a proper, full preseason so you still should season it properly yourself.

Quality

Griddle top is heavy duty and feels quality. The whole grill feels well made so the overall quality is good.

Camp Chef Flat Top 600 Grill vs Blackstone Flat Top Gas Grill

Is Camp Chef FTG600 better than Blackstone Flat Top Gas Grill? In our opinion yes but both of grills are pretty great.

We won’t go into detailed comparison as that would require a whole seperate article but there are various things that give Camp Chef upper hand (however Blackstone has some advantages too).

The heat distribution on Camp Chef FTG600 seems to be a bit better. Camp Chef has wind guards that block wind (Blackstone has gap so in windy conditions flame can be a bit inconsistent). Blackstone doesn’t come with grill grate whereas Camp Chef does. Side tables fold whereas they don’t on some Blackstone models. Campchef also feels a bit better quality but Blackstone is not bad in any way either.

With that being said Blackstone griddles are still outstanding products overall and models that are most similar to Camp Chef 600 are usually sold at lower price.

Grease Catcher

Camp Chef FTG600 is equipped with front grease catcher that’s located on the left side. It works well and grease is caught without it dripping elsewhere. It’s easy to access and remove.

Griddle levelers

Camp Chef FTG600 flat top grill has griddle levelers so you can adjust griddle to the correct angle.

Verdict

Camp Chef FTG600 is certainly among the best flat top grills you can buy. It cooks great and is well designed.
